Question

Way up here in the great north, a motorsports diff would add points without question. CACC rules.
With the old 915 gearbox you could actually "tighten" the diff apparently a few percentages if you wanted.
997 I would think is different.
Correct me if I am wrong, I was always told that while on track, you should turn the PSM off as to lengthen the life of the diff, and rear brakes.
Correct ?

Hey, hey don't go agreeing with ice cream eating Fiat fantasy land lover!
I'm sure Playstation cars are great for cone bashing for up to 2 minutes stthe time, but I quit that pass time long before Rad switched teams..

Most experienced drivers will be faster with PSM off so it's probably a good idea anyway. Thing is, even when turned "off" it will reactivate under some conditions (unless the GT models are completely different) so while it may help some from a wear standpoint, it's debateable how much. From the manual:

The following functions stabilize the vehicle in
emergency situations, even with PSM switched
off:
– When PSM is off, the vehicle is stabilized as
soon as one of the two front wheels enters the
ABS control range.
– When PSM is off and Sport mode is on, the
vehicle is stabilized as soon as both front
wheels enter the ABS control range.
One-sided spinning of the wheels is prevented,
even with PSM switched off.

That makes sense Randy, thanks. Whenever I've gone to the track I always remember "three buttons pressed" ;
PSM to Off
Sport to On
Shocks to On (if smooth track)
I like to be the one driving. At least as much as possible.

Here's the procedure's outline.

"Measure the basic locking torque with one shaft bevel gear driven and the other one fixed. To do this, clamp one flange in the vice with two screws and position differential. Insert second flange with shop-made connecting piece and turn differential with a torque screwdriver. A basic locking torque of 5 ... 15 Nm (3.5 ... 11 ftlb) must be reached."
