Default Excellent - 335/265/18 BFG R1s fit like a glove on the RS

A few folks had me scared that this was going to end in tears - but it worked great. At first they looked like they were going to rub on the rear, but they tuck in as the wheel moves upward. I'm running -3.5 in front and -2.5 in rear, stock heights. That's about as much tire as I can see fitting without mods.

With one more weekend of learning the 911's dynamics under my belt (I finally ditched the nannies), it's not a apples to apples comparison to the 335/255 hohos I tried last time. Best I stumbled into going CCW at TWS on the hoho's was a 1:52.4, the R1s were a second faster today in traffic and higher ambient temps. If the R1s hold up longer than the hoho's 12 heat cycles, they could be a good option. This set was $300 less than a set of R6s.

It really was!

Next time we're out there together, remind me to hop in your right seat...

Nope, the diameter ratio is only 0.5% off stock.

The section width is the same as the R6 (13.5" rear) - but the difference is that the R6's max width is at the rim protector, and the R1's is the face. R1 has a very square shoulder, so it's a tighter fit.

How did you like the R1's?

Great seeing you this weekend btw.

They seemed good, the side wall flexed a bit and the car "hopped" when under extreme load, but never broke loose. I never got enough laps in to check the temperature curves to get the pressures right.

The R6s heat cycled out before they corded (but I still drove on them), so my hope is that R1s will take a few more cycles before they turn into drift tires. One positive thing about the ragged out R6s I was using on Sunday morning was that I learned how to drift the RS through 6,8, and 12 - actually worked to build a bit of confidence.

Likewise, and many thanks for the masterful paddock beverage. I can't believe I've been missing out for so many years.

Glad you enjoyed. I make them every Saturday when the track goes cold. Come on by any time. There's nothing better than driving your Porsche on the race track, and having a Hendricks Martini chaser!

Love the white gold on the Forgelines. Thanks so much for the tip-off on the "mistakes". I've got a 2nd set on order now, in preparation for racing season.

Let us know how they perform, assuming you decide to keep running them. Hoosier needs some serious competition.

What tire pressures do you run on the R1's?

Heh...except for driving your BMW on the race track at a Porsche event, and having a Hendricks Martini chaser!

I was preoccupied with a pressure leak. I'll get them right next time with a pyrometer and report back.
