Looks like I'm finally pulling the trigger on moving to SF (San Fracisco, not Southern France :-)), so I am finally ready to put a deposit on the 991 GT3. Are all the early allocations spoken for or will I get a chance to get one of the early shipments if I act now? Also, what would be a good dealer to deal with in SF/Bay Area?

I've been on a list since Jan 2012. Many dealers may have full lists now since it's getting so close to the intro of the car, but it doesn't hurt to ask. You might get a slot, but it also might be later rather than sooner. Sonnen Porsche in Mill Valley (about 15 miles North of S.F.) has treated me well.

If I'd taken that advice I'd have missed years of trouble free driving in my first year production 3.2 Carrera, 996, 987 S, 997.2 S, and 958 S. The 991 GT3 isn't Porsche's first 911 or GT or even 991; I don't see the problem, but TEHO.

In the past months, all the Porsche dealer folks referred this 991.1 GT3 engine as a 'newer version of the current 991.1 Carrera engine.'

I have a feeling that this 9A1-based engine in the 991.1 GT3 in fact is a very important engine -- a prelude of what will be in next 9A2 engine blueprint (or whatever Porsche will call it.)

I bet that selected features of this 991.1 GT3 9A1 engine will be filtered down to the upcoming Carrera/Cayman/Boxster, probably in their Mk.2 releases.

The 991.1 GT3 sounds like a very good 'pilot program' to test this engine in the real world, only a low few thousands of them will be sold and many of these customers will probably drive these cars hard -- Hence, to help reveal potential 'real world' issues to be sorted out before releasing higher production 9A2 engines in the future Carrera/Cayman/Boxster Mk.2 line.

Meanwhile, Porsche will buy some time racing the Mezger engine in the 991.1 GT3 RSR/Cup cars, until a family of new flat-8 engines (see another thread) to be ready for the 991.2 GT3/RS/RSR/Cup around 2016/2017 timeframe.

My local dealer (outside of Philadelphia) has 6 deposits and doesn't know their allocation of GT3's yet. They also have 5 people on the list for the new RS assuming there will be a new RS of course.

Interestng thoughts. It will be a relief to be dealing with actual facts in 30 more days. In the meantime, it costs me nothing other than a small refundable deposit to be on a waiting list.

well as long as u don't deal with Carlsen Porsche, u MIGHT have a chance. but chances are all gt/rs in Bay Area are taken.

And you can always push your deposit to a 991.2 GT3/RS model if you want. Best to be on the list now.
