Default Buying 2009 GT2 - what to look for!

To 997 GT2 owners, other members pitch in .. please

Say you want to buy this car. Low miles, condition said to be immaculate - like new.

Other than PPI, mechanical check. What would you look for, terms of accessories. Set of 2 keys, books, manuals. Spare tire, repair tool kit.

How many manuals/books come with it ?

Road emergency sign - kit ?

Thanks in advance.

It wont have a spare tire and the repair kit is pretty darn useless. If you get a flat, you pretty much have to get a tow. I would expect two keys and the leather owners manual.

Thanks Serge! So you saying when one gets flat tire, just wave 'lady in distress' "SOS" sign

I would start off by checking the VIN, as I don't believe, but of course could be incorrect, that there is such a car as a 2009 GT2. 2008 yes, 2011 yes, but it would be the first 2009 I've heard of.

Beyond this, using the VIN, confirm the build specs with your local Porsche dealer and match those against both the window sticker and a visual of the car. That will tell you if any aftermarket work has been performed that might not be readily apparent.

Secretcollector,

Thanks. Actually 997 GT2 was produced for for 08 and 09 model years. You can check Google. Or better even with PCNA

As I always say, every day is a good day to learn something new. I have never seen a 2009 GT2, only the 2008, so I didn't investigate further.

Unofficial reports of 20 2009 GT2 units sold in the US.

All the ones I've seen are PTO and the strange one or two standard colors that pop up on the internet. Usually if I see a 2009 its PTO.

Just an FYI.

Look for other cars in your rear view mirror.

I would not expect that the standard PPI would include a test for boost leaks. You should have that done as well. It would be ideal to hook up a Durametric and collect data on a third gear boost run from 2000 rpm to redline. That will tell you a lot about the health of the engine. Data to log:
rpm
load
mass air flow
intake air temp
ignition angle
injector time
O2 sensor lambda (both banks)
Boost pressure of sensor
Setpoint boost

Post the logs here, and also in the turbo forums for some feedback.

Good luck!

Jon

I have a 2009 model (with the new PCM). The main weakness in this car is the clutch, especially if its been slightly modded or you plan on modding it. Make sure you get one with either a recently changed clutch or an upgraded clutch, unless its really low mileage.

If clubsport specs, make sure you get the red Werner bottle and associated mounting gear (washers, spacers, black frame)--that's a $1k accessory to buy in OEM aftermarket.

Thank you all for the input.

Dantzig - thnx alot for the recom ref Durametric testing, though I would think unnecessary for a low mile car. That's been delicately driven, serviced by P dealer.

BHGT2 - no mods, all OEM parts car.

CRex - thanks for the reminder. Confirmed, the fire extinguisher/accessories still new in-box.
