Default GT3 New Seats - Opinion on cage, roll bar or harness.

I have just purchased a set of Euro GT3 seats to replace my sport seats in my 997.2 GT3. I am now trying to decide whether to install a harness bar, roll bar, or full cage. Car is used mainly for DE's, no racing and is driven to and from track.

Any thoughts and suggestions appreciated.

Roll bar/half cage. Not a good idea to run a fixed back seat without one.

Harness bar is too little and full cage is too much for DE. IMHO of course.

Factory roll bar (aka Clubsport Roll bar)in my 2007 GT3 RS. Picture was taken while it still had the stock GT3 seats.

I have read that PCNA is no longer importing them, but you can get it here:

I believe in certain states you will receive a huge fine (if the car is not impounded) for having a full cage, with the bar(s) that go across the door. I think NJ is one of those states.

Rob, where are you located? I have a DAS roll bar I'm willing to let go for a great price.

Presume you are referring to street use. I am in Maryland, but looks like it is half cage or just harness bar. Thanks.

I have the GMG RSR roll bar. GMG markets a couple benefits over other bars. 1) No drilling required, it bolts into existing hard points, and 2) you can move the stock sport seats all the way back without hitting the bar.

One benefit the motorsports bar has is that you can add the front cage to it - though I don't know if it meets PCA safety requirements for club racing.

+1 for GMG RSR bar. I have the GT-2 buckets, and they do not hit the bar all the way back. Got Schroth GT3 belts and couldn't be happier with set up.

The benefit of a harness bar is that its lighter, easy to remove and you have more space to put stuff in the back. The roll bar does look a lot nicer though. Also the entry price point is much lower.

+2 on GMG RSR + 6pt schroths (in a '10 997.2 GT3 w/ factory sport buckets)

I had a GMG bar in my 996...the one that bolts into the seat belt points. I liked it and it got the job done.

The ones that tie into the rear struts are better because the bar takes some of the rear shock load out of the chassis, but you'll need to cut your existing carpet or get a "club sport" version in it's place (for a factory look).

I wouldn't run harness and fixed back seats (arguable that the Sport seats are fixed back) with a harness bar. Kind of defeats the purpose of improving safety.

We had a guy roll over at a PCA event last year in a 996 turbo with fixed back seats and a harness bar and he's lucky to be alive.

Agree with others - roll bar at a minimum for harness use.

Although the GT3 seats and standard seatbelts will be an improvement on their own.
