Reter, weight and tires. 996 cup must be at least 500lb lighter.

Weight, not tires, Slicks fit on both.

Yes, 500lbs difference with me in it 600lb VS most drivers and certaily pro drivers;-)
Not sure if 100-150HP can overcome the weight, but I think it could be close.

What car is Leh King driving in that popular 2:06 video at Sebring where he even had some traffic? I thought it was a 996 Cup too?

What is a fast time 996CUP on fresh licks and 997.2 RS with some cheater parts, 2:14/15?

Regear a comfy streetable RS and add some more cheater parts and you'd be right there...
Close, but not enough.

A stock 2004-2005 996 GT3 Cup is a 2:12 car. 2006-2009 997 GT3 Cup 3.6 are 2:10 cars, and the newer 2010+ 997 GT3 Cup are 2:06 cars.

There are many modified non-stock cars out there, Grand-Am aero, ALMS aero, sprint motors (ALMS motors with extra 60Hp-85Hp on Speed GT 996 GT3 Cup with extra aero), lap times from modified cars vary, but they are even faster.

On R6 a stock 996 GT3 Cup can run a 2:14 (fresh slicks gain close to 2 secs per lap at Sebring). There is no way a 3.8RS or a 4.0RS on R6 can do a 2:14, but with modifications, the sky is the limit.

By the way, most 996 GT3 Cup out there are not stock.

Here is the video you are talking about - in a 996 GT3RS:

That car leh drove was the 996 RS, I think it was an RSR conversion they did and ran high 1:25's at Road Atlanta and 2:06 (or 2:08) at Sebring. Then they got a real 996 RSR and unrestricted it ran 1:21 at Road Atlanta, don't know what that one did at Sebring.

Troy in his stripper 3.8 was going similar speeds on the straights as my car which on good slicks is probably mid-low 1:24 territory or better and pretty much equal to GTC cars.

I don't know about a street weight 4.0, but a stripper 4.0 on slicks should run at the very least 1:25's at RA which if that is any indication of Sebring times is 2:07-2:09 range and within a second or so of the Cups. The difference would only be in the Sequential shifting and maybe braking. 3.8 RS should be 2:10 range or better. We are talking some insane driving though.

Supply VS demand makes them a good investment as long as you don't ball it up and parts remain available at reasonable cost.
