Default Trailer Tires - Opinions & TPMS

Searched the forum, looking for opinions on the best tires for a trailer - 20' enclosed TPD.

Drive from Sacramento yesterday, had a flat, no indication, trailer stable no unusual movement - trailer was empty. Does anyone use a TPMS on their trailer?

Thanks,

Thanks,
The infamous TRAKCAR has one on his trailer do maybe he will take time from his busy schedule on the autograph circuit and give his thoughts.

Used 20' TPD, great shape and clean, A/C and awning. Had them clean up the roof seals, install a winch, and motorized tongue jack. Drive home stopped at Lost Hills for gas and a bite to eat, filling up saw tire and about $hit my pants. Speed was 65/70 couldn't even tell tire went, trailer was steady, rear tire was clearly carrying the load without issue, no car though. May have hit something, bad tire, who knows... Installed spare and made the rest of the journey without incident.

Tire choices are pretty limited
I swapped 6 tires on my 24 foot 3 axle TPD and used the highest load rating good year marathons - from tire rack

Congrats on the trailer

^ Thanks I'll check those out.

The one I picked up was white.

I checked out a 5th wheel and another baller 24' tag. That 5th wheel may be the way to in the future.

I have a system from http://www.tsttruck.com/RV_Tire_Systems.html and love it. Saved my a$$ a couple of times already. I have an eight sensor system for rig and trailer ... $400. Portable too, just don't tell your friends.

I use the TST system on my motorhome and trailer http://www.tsttruck.com/images/7e8bc...92c7fcc5dd.jpg

It's been good. Main features are:

- Field replaceable batteries
- Installs on the valves in minutes
- Allows for inflation through the sensor
- Can accommodate something like 22 individual sensors

Default Trailer TPMS

I have the older/original version of the TST system and it is extremely valuable in terms of peace of mind. In my first 10 years of towing I had never had a tire issue; then on one trip in October 2010 I had three blowouts on the same trip (all pressures properly set prior to trip). After that experience, every time I went through a long tunnel or over a long bridge I feared "what if I lose a tire here?" A fellow track buddy found and bought the Doran, but the TST was less expensive and had a smaller display unit, so I bought it. The resulting peace of mind is most welcome; always know the tire pressures/temps and can scroll through them on demand. Highly recommended.

The newest version with user-replaceable batteries and flow through design would be more convenient. All do need to be mounted on steel valve stems, and at some point the internal version would make sense in terms of convenience, but cost more.
