991 Cup

"easier to drive at the limit" = less exciting racing
some years ago there was a move to make the tyres for Supercup more 'peaky', they were faster but for a shorter period than the previous season's (could go off in the course of one banzai lap), but the racing was better
By all means make the car easy to drive (everybody better able to concentrate on racing) but don't make it easier to drive the car close to some theoretical vMax; when that is difficult we get to see who the fast drivers really are and races have fair rather than fluky results.

New cup will be a new class for sure.... in terms of IMSA for 2014.... for 2013 PMNA will only be shipping 997.2 cups. For Porsche Cup series, all will be new version.. they only run latest and greatest. Back to IMSA in '14, even though 991 has same motor, will be faster around track vs mk2 997... 10 more hp, better gearing, full paddles, better weight distribution, wider tires, ABS, etc. etc. The question is what to call the class... Gold, Platinum and XXXX?!

Can't stand to see dudes with no skill hyped as though they have some because the car does everything for them.
But of course, easier to drive and keeping everyone close will make the racing exciting like F1.......... ooops.

to an extent. I've seen many a person get into the 997.1 cups and have no clue on the sequential ending up slower than their street cars. As long as there is a challenge barrier to entry, I'm ok with it. Mastering sequential downshifts is no joke either. Though still not as beautiful as a masterful 996 Cup lap with perfect up and downshifts by any means.

Burning Brakes
997 cups don't have ABS and even with blipper, still requires clutch on down shifts. I found most of my errors had to do with braking and shifting. braking once my tires started to lose grip and would have to adjust braking points and shifting when going from say 5th or 6th to 2nd in short distance during really heavy braking. My point is that other makes require less from their drivers as they have ABS and paddles. So there drivers are only focused on throttle and racing vs. all that and shifting and dealing with non-ABS. Porsche has to change or else will never be competitive. And ABS and paddles still can't mask talent, at least at the racing level. I guess in amateur racing kooks will be faster, but so will the talented guys.
