My take on Hatz's comments is that use of the Mezger is a short term solution so Porsche can race in 2013 at LeMans. The DFI engine may not be ready yet for a LeMans application, but I'll predict it will eventually be used for racing across the board and concern about using different engines in the street GT3's will become moot.

Seriously, I bet it's a PDK box.

I re-ran the video a few times. Interesting that there seems to be a third pedal, yet video also seems to show paddles.

Of course it has a clutch-pedal! '12 RSR's and GT3 R's also have the clutch pedal to start. If the car's rolling the computer does the clutch-work. But to get off you still need to operate the clutch yourself.

Any online FIA resources that we can look at for the regulations? Thanks.

Lovely RSR photos just shown. Is it true that the RSR and Cup car will usethe old Mezger engine and not the new DFI motor?
[Grimacing] "I know where the photos were taken and I don't know how they did it. We want to participate next year [the next day Manthey were announced as running factory 991 RSRs at Le Mans 2013] and, yes, the RSR and Cup will use the old engine. It is very reliable and strong and it does a good job and in the Cup it will be 3.8 litres. It was an easy decision."
Interesting. Mezger in the 991 GT3 RSR and Cup, as Wolfgang Hatz stated above.

And as from the spy videos we all have seen, the 991 GT3 street car sounded like having a DFI engine (that infamous tick tick tick after cold start and drive off during the cold weather testing.)

Would it mean (as least for the 991.1, I assume 991.2 will be a different story) the 991 GT3 RSR and Cup will be using different engine than the 991 GT3 street car?

I do struggle with PAG logic...

1) would you want to buy the next 991 GT3/RS if it had a different engine to the race cars? The success and spirit of the GT3/RS is that it's as close a road car can get to the real thing?
2) would you want to buy the next 991 GT3/RS if it had the same engine as the race cars but knew a new engine was going to be coming soon (ish)? I would wait.
3) admitting CL's stuff and replacing every 15k.... stupid and should be rectified

as long as the lap times are faster, people will buy...

So how are they going to test the new DFI's racing application if they don't race it? They should field a couple RSRs with the new DFI for development as factory team and let racing customers run the Mezger.
