I had a 997.2 GT3 two years ago and i sold it.For some period i drove other cars.Last month i got another 7.2 and i can admit it was a difficult time without it.
Once you live with it you cant live without it.The 3.8 sound and this sharp feeling behind the steering wheel of this boy toy bring back the smile in my face.(My best friend noticed i was smiling again)

I have had one of each. For track, 996 GT3 is the best bang for the buck. The 997RS Mk1 is no better on track. On the other hand if you do more street than track, the 997.1 RS is a better car with more comfort on the street while giving up nothing on the track. The MkII RS (2010-11) is a serious upgrade and is a better performer on the track than either of its predecessors. The 4.0 is the ultimate but pricey as hell.
So, having owned and tracked extensively my 996 GT3, 2007 RS and now a 2010 RS the above is my humble opinion. If I had known more about the 997.1RS I would have kept my 996. For the difference in price, you could make the 996GT3 a better car than the first gen RS.
Best,

I don't regret not getting a 997.1 GT3.
Will probably get a 997.2 RS if I get tired of trailering and decide to dial it back a notch. Dialing back the commitment, that is.

im on my second 997.1RS..... For under 100k they are great cars. 5 lugs, wide body, low production, good aero great on the street and looks the pretty darn hot, almost too much attention getting.
The 997.2 non RS is also a great car, but hard to find under 100k and lacks the "wham!"of the wide body 997.1![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
996 is a great car, and modified is just as good as any 997.1 or better. But it just dosnt have the interior /exterior allure of the 997.....
Time to move up to a 997.1 or if you have the money, get a 997.2

keeping my comments to just driveability and daily usage, and letting others comment on value and technical merits, I found that the 997.1 car was significantly improved over the 996. Its ride was considerably softer, which made it much more practical to use as a daily driver and also somewhat more forgiving. Less twitchy than the 996 and I think more in the way of driver nannies. Equally fast on the track but much more enjoyable off it. The 997.2 RS is a further step forward with noticeably more power, much less understeer (wider front track) and better overall grip (giant wing). While others may assert that vinyl is better than 8-track and 8-track better than CD, I think this is a car that has continuously improved. I couldn't find fault with any of the three but each feels progressively better than the last.

pjs, you dont need 6-3. you need to get your BOX first.
kk, sorry to tell you, your particular white 6-3 is a pos. i being the nice person that i am, will take it off your hand for $50k.
seriously though...
if street use, ANY 7 will be better than 6.
track use, 6 is cheap.
like bob R, i will not buy 7.1 variants, despite having had 4 7.1's.
7. 2 is miles ahead of 6, but $$$
if u monoball a 7.2 with MCS/JRZ/Ohlin etc, nothing else will touch it.
