Smile Shark Werks GT3 and GT3RS Tuning / Modification Guide

Hey folks, as many of you have by now gathered we're huge fans of the GT3 & GT3RS platform and have owned a number of these cars over the years. Obviously because of who we are and what we do we get a lot of calls, emails and drop-ins each week asking for our recommendations for modifications, often "what would you do if this was your car?" or more specifically which parts we would upgrade etc.

We tell plenty of people, just leave it bone stock and it's good to go, although there's always to make it a bit more edgy.

So we decided to write a tuning and modification guide with brief explanations for what we would and wouldn't change, and why...

This is a good starting point for new GT3 or RS owners and experienced owners that are new to modifying the car. With all the information available online we decided to summarize and organize our thoughts into one document.

2010-2011 GT3RS:

2007-2008 GT3RS:

2007-2008 GT3:

We are also working on guides for other cars.

What are the EVOMSit gains with the sharky center muffler bypass on the 3.6L I've read upwards of 25-30hp? Can you confirm?

Thanks for doing this guys. Also thanks for the sticker you sent me a while back. Have to get a picture but the car is up for the winter.

Hi Jamie,
15-20 HP (crank) is more realistic, the car dynos 12 RWHP more from the software, people claim about 5 RWHP from the bypass. Porsche didn't leave quite that much on the table But there's really nothing else you can do to get power on these cars from our experience, short of building the engine.

Here's a dyno showing 17 RWHP peak gain with these two upgrades using 91-octane:

Hey Tal, you're welcome and looking forward to seeing the car sporting the SW sticker

Hi Dan,

Same thing with side muffle delete or race pipes? Guess there isn't much restriction past the cats to aid in scavenging...

good to know!

best part was telling people not to put 20's on their car. lol. (which I completely agree with, it should be a crime)

although you guys aren't fans of swapping headers, I do think the supersport gt3 stepped headers seem interesting.

Very nice guide! I would have gone for the center bypass if not for Laguna Seca's sound restriction...

A very well written piece from one of the most respected guys in the GT community!!

One thing about the switch-disconnect valve bypass "procedure"--it does create a code in the ECU whose "fault count" goes up every time you start the engine. It sticks out like a sore thumb once you connect the car to PIWIS. No harm done, but be prepared that any dealer worth his salt will spot and question this.

Great article. Very nicely done. Answers a ton of questions in one short piece for the newb who hasn't been fully inducted into RL yet

Very nicely done.
A must read for any new GT3 owner to shove him down the slippery slope with a gentle wack in the neck.

Mercifully you left the prices off :-)
