Hmmm. It's surprising how frequently that comes up as a point of negotiation, isn't it.
There's always pricescope to get a ballpark. Three carats makes a nice bauble of an earring, but it just won't cut it (sorry) as a ring these days.

As for Tiffany's, aside from their classic engagement ring, their price premium on the rocks is just insulting ... not that I'm drawing any connection between absurd brand premiums for diamonds and wildly overpriced cars ...

Unless it's different in the US, the problem I have with getting a 996 cup is finding a "nice" one. One with original low hours. Any way you look at it, the tub ages, and things wear out.
If $$ was possible for me, I would get a nice 997 cup and possibly replace gearbox with a 996 cup box.
