For my part it seems more reasonable to wait until I see a finished 991 GT3 product before I draw any conclusions. Carry on......

Sorry wanna911, I just think you're stretching. Your thesis keeps getting further and further qualified. What are you going to say if the 458 Scud comes with 20" wheels too?

Then you completely missed the point about the GT3 being in a league of it's own. I don't know how to simplify it any more for you.

Could you contradict yourself any more? You won't accept what you see on an ACTUAL GT3, and ridicule people who try based on what they see, and then try to speculate on a car that nobodies seen yet.

I didn't miss your point, I don't need it simplified, and nothing went over my head. I get what you're saying, I just don't agree. Nothing personal.

For you guys that are used to driving around in a GT3, get some seat time in a 997.2 Carrera S. You will also think "what kind of soft sh*t is this?" compared to your GT3. It's all a whole lot more civilised. Now, how to make a car less civilised? Remove sound deadening, make it stiffer = more noise + more feel of what the car does + less comfort.
I think they can pull that trick off with the 991. Ok, I must admit you will probably no longer train your left leg muscles in a traffic jam. That's true

[QUOTE=ir_fuel;9915423]Didn't include that because it is already part of the "doomed" 911 generation
So you think the new 911 generation (991) will be doomed, and into oblivion, the way of the 996!
Interesting thought, yet difficult to imagine

well in our breakfast drive this morning, a buddy of mine said the Porsche country distributor confirmed with him that the wing on the spy pics of the GT3 is only the aerokit wing and will not be the actual GT3 wing. the actual rear wing will be bigger.
and the car will be PDK only!!!

I would love to hear the qualifications of a sports car, a GT car, and a race car today. Meanwhile I am going to grab a drink and enjoy the laughs. I would like to hear from wanna911 first!

I'm personally thankful that Porsche stopped listening to misguided customers, started listening to reason, and finally built a new motor. The only caveat is that it had better not be an exercise by the bean-counters, but an expression of what we know the engineers are capable of.
If you want that motor you now have 50 years worth of different versions to choose from. You still have endless opportunity to enjoy it.

The Metzger engine has been one of the biggest weaknesses of Porsche GT models for a decade. People who blindly defend it are either stuck in the past, or have no concept of how heavy and outdated it really is.
Heavy? Yes.. Outdated by the l/100klm stds? Yes.
"Biggest weakness" of the GT cars? Well, that's probably the weakest argument ever made in all of the posts ever made in all the automotive internet forums around the world..
It is indubitably a fact that his engine's derivative, is the only tenable position among the so called "engines with a racing pedigree"; and has lasted for so long and with such remarkable results..
Forward thinking, yes. Progress..? Sure! Unfair aphorisms.. Well.. they don't work..

4.0 500HP did not feel like weakness to me today at Sebring.
Drove 700 miles this weekend ;-)
Instructed in a well sorted 900HP GTR.
I was shocked how fast they are and how SH!itty they feel, sound, brake and corner over anything but smooth pavement. I'd take a corvette viper AMG any day of the week. New and faster is not always better..
