The 991S tested did not have the grippier MPSS tires, it did not have PCCB, and it did not have the Carbon seats (available everywhere but U.S. and Canada). With these three options, the 991S would lap Laguna Seca in low 1:38s, less than 2 secs slower than the fastest time posted by Randy Pobst in the GT3 RS 3.8., add the MPSC tires and wider wheels to the 991S and the gap with the 997.2 GT3 RS 3.8 will be even closer.
Unfortunately, with all the go-fast parts, the 991S is a $140k car, and less money buys a pristine 997.2 GT3 RS 3.8, a better looking and more involving car to drive.
991S must be the most practical car available in the market in its price range.
The MP4-12C just 0.6 secs behind the track record holder (the 1:33.9 posted by a Viper ACR), cool.

911 Carrera S $96,400
Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) with PASM sport suspension 031 $4,050
Carrera S Powerkit X51$ 17,800 (430HP, comes with sport exhaust.
Total $119,200
The GT3 look aero kit is another 6K
+ seats another 6K and you are already paying more then a GT3RS was.
I shudder to think what a new RS will cost!

Not sure if the car had PDCC, PTV, etc.; all of that would help, as would the powerkit and maybe the aerokit.

@Trakcar, and you still need to add PCCB, and the standard few cosmetic options that everybody adds to a 911, hence my $140k price point to get the performance oriented version. Expect 991 GT3 and GT3 RS prices to go sky high, Porsche already proved they can charge over $200k for a 7 years old shape GT3.
My guess: 991 GT3 in the $150k and 991 GT3 RS in the $185k, they will sell them all, because GT3 have many followers and don't care about MSRP as long as it is the latest GT3. With PDK, they will sell vastly more, now that the unable to drive a stick for lack of skills (majority) and the unable to drive stick for physical reasons (a minority) have the option to own a GT3.
@Guest89, yes same 997 GT2 seats, no idea why they are not available here.

GT2 RS driven by Overbeek did 1:35.5, on the same test JvO did 1:37.9 in the GT3 RS 3.8.
No one has lapped the GT2 RS in stock trim in 1:34s.
The Z06 did 1:34.4 on the same test a year ago on the RunFlat Michelin tires, faster than everything tested this year, and just 0.5 secs behind the fastest street car tested at Laguna Seca, the 2010 Viper ACR at 1:33.9
More impressive yet, 7 judges plus Randy Pobst voted, each judge and Randy picked the same car for 1st place, first time it happens in 5+ years Motor Trend has been running this Laguna Seca test.

Porsche is definitely going more "upscale" with the pricing. I have been told this by a few dealers that Porsche has mentioned this in dealer sales meetings.
I'm sticking with my GTS for years unless something goes wrong with it...or Vette, Mustang come out with a transmission like PDK that I could use. The 991S is too expensive and the GT cars are going to really be out of my league.
I would have liked to seen what a Z06 would have done on that track day with Randy!

GT2 sport buckets were a $3125 option on my '09 Carrera S. Price may go up a bit, but not to $6K......
I predict MSRP of a 991 GT3 (w/PDK) at around $130K. Even at that price, the delta between a base 991S and a base 991 GT3 will be significantly more than the difference between the respective 997.2S and a 997.2 GT3. Porsche will still be making a healthy profit. As for PDCC, I would skip it. If your $150K estimate for the GT3 also includes a reasonable selection of oprions, then I would agree that's in the ballpark.
It took a while for the sport buckets to make their way into the 997 series as well. By the time the GT3 comes out (or maybe sooner), I think they will be available across the board.

As far as price, I think most 991 GT3s will be > $150k out the door (before tax, obviously). I think RS could easily be a $175k-$200k car our the door, depending on how "special" it is compared to the GT3, the transmission situation, added power, color scheme/graphics, etc.

I know the seats aren't available in the US yet, but then neither is the car, and won't be for quite a while. My assumption is they (or something similar) will be available by the time you can order a new 991 GT3 and was just pointing out that if you order them up front they should be cheaper than $6K.
