There are many used Porsches that are great deals but the new ones are going to be epensive. My 991 with a most of the stuff except the brakes was 118K. Considering how much fun it is to drive it's a pretty good deal. My turbo will be 170K or so probably.

Too bad they didn't include the new Boxster S. Might have been interesting.

Also, I didn't see where they listed all the alphabet-soup the 991 had: PTV - PDCC - SPASM, etc. They said 'active suspension', but that could mean PASM, SPASM, or even PDCC.

Porsches are getting expensive... The 996 GT3 was 99k new, and didn't need ANY options for maximum performance.

PTV and LSD are standard on the S......the vid appears to show the deeper front spoiler lip which would mean the car has SPASM......no mention of PDCC at all in the vid or text on the web site; you'd think that they would have, if it had it.

True. Just for perspective, OTOH, my '09 Carrera S had an MSRP of about $112K. 3 years later, the Carrera S MT tested at $123K has more power, better handling, better brakes, etc. In fact it's in the ballpark, performance wise, to a 997.2 GT3 which, similarly equipped, would likely be over $123K. Not saying the 991 is a necessarily a bargain, but it's all relative....

My guess: 991 GT3 in the $150k and 991 GT3 RS in the $185k, they will sell them all, because GT3 have many followers and don't care about MSRP as long as it is the latest GT3. With PDK, they will sell vastly more, now that the unable to drive a stick for lack of skills (majority) and the unable to drive stick for physical reasons (a minority) have the option to own a GT3.

@Guest89, yes same 997 GT2 seats, no idea why they are not available here.
Rad, I completely agree. Not valueing PDK and PCCB, I wanted to just show that the least expensive 991 I would concider at the moment is $125K, just go fast stuff, no PCCB, no PDK, no nothing. So yes a real world 991S for the track starts at about $140K. I paid 135K for my RS!!

No one has lapped the GT2 RS in stock trim in 1:34s.

The Z06 did 1:34.4 on the same test a year ago on the RunFlat Michelin tires, faster than everything tested this year, and just 0.5 secs behind the fastest street car tested at Laguna Seca, the 2010 Viper ACR at 1:33.9

More impressive yet, 7 judges plus Randy Pobst voted, each judge and Randy picked the same car for 1st place, first time it happens in 5+ years Motor Trend has been running this Laguna Seca test.
You are correct Rad, I updated my first post with correct laptimes for the GT3RS and the GT2RS, I thought I remembered them, but I looked them up at: http://www.fastestlaps.com/tracks/laguna_seca.html
And just to compare I added the top 50 laptimes at Laguna to the bottom of this post.

Impressive that all 7 voted for the 991S. That bodes well for the future 991RS albeit at a higher price than a bubble wrapped GT2RS. I know what I'd have...

Best deal for a track car seems to be the Vette Z06. Lots of easy to get parts, no P car tax on parts, pretty reliable.
I'm hoping to see more new Mustangs and Camaro's out at the track.

Money no object street/track car for me would be a Ferrari F430 Scud with F1 transmission...or if I could push a clutch pedal the GT2RS. Reliable Super Car track cars.

Oh I think about that all the friggin time. TTS right now are still way up there...about $150-160k. There is an awesome one at Reeves in Tampa, white too but it's $150k or more.

Maybe the 991 GT3 will be a big deal and guys in 2 years from now will be dumping the old 997 TTS and prices will plummet.

I don't know if the will plummet or not but when the new turbo comes out in about a year the 997 TTS will get less desirable.

The MP4-12C just 0.6 secs behind the track record holder (the 1:33.9 posted by a Viper ACR), cool.[/QUOTE]

Had a ride in the McLaren yesterday at TMP. The most impressive feature of that car is the way it negotiates the bumps, almost as if they are non existent.
For me the 430 Scud is far more engaging car to drive for alot less $.

I posted this on another thread:

I just drove a base 991 and 991 S back to back at PNW's newest race track (Ridge Motorsport Park). Based on 991 reviews I've read i.e. more GT than sporty, electric steering, too quiet, etc., I expected to not like the car. Well, I was pleasantly surprised. The car still had plenty of feel as you get closer to the limit. The PDK was better than I can shift; in Sport Plus mode, I still had to think about the optimum time to shift. This attribute actually made the car more involving to drive than I thought. Left foot braking is more of a possibility. Turn-in is sharper than I expected. I also enjoyed the engine noise especially in Sport Plus mode.

If I can only have one car, the only choice for me remains to be the 911. Having said this, I've always believed in my ideal car trinity (a daily driver, a nice-weather fun car, and a proper race car) and three bespoke cars will always do a better job than an all-in-one. Admittedly, the 991 has raised the bar. If this model proves to be reliable and I don't need 4 adult sized seats, I can see myself owning a base with minimal options as a daily driver."

On another note, the other car that got my attention in the Motor Trend piece is the C63 AMG Black. This could be a good all-in-one car for me with more backseat space and large panoramic roof.
