Opinions needed on GT3 purchase
Hello all,
I'm about to take the plunge and buy a GT3. I've been contemplating the purchase for months as this will be my first Porsche. I finally came across a 997.2 with the right color and all the options I was hoping for. I went ahead and placed a deposit on the car but ONE thing continues to nag me.. the car has a front license plate holder drilled into the bumper. I know it may seem minor to some, but it kinda bothers me. I've spoken to a couple body shop guys who tell me the only way to repair the holes is to have the front bumper repainted. That seemed a little much considering the car is practically brand new. The other potential solution would be Bumper Plugs but I can't swallow the idea as they don't sit flush. I guess my question is... if you were in my shoes how many of you guys would move forward with the purchase? vs those who feel that it's an unacceptable blemish on an otherwise perfect work of art.. I would appreciate any and all opinions. Thanks guys.. deal breaker??

I HATE front license plate holes in porsche.... HATE!
Some places require them thus in the used market we are forced to live with them, and euro delivery supposedly require holes drilled for touring throughout europe...
SO, i d say bumperplug em' or look for another car.
I wouldnt buy a RS with holes in the front bumper personally... It would have be a hellava deal.

Here in california, it is mandatory to have a front license plate, and I never want to give the police any reason to pull me over, so I have the front plates in place. It really doesn't bother me and doesn't take anything away from the car.
Personally, really, would you walk away from your dream car because of this? I sure wouldn't. Good luck with your decision.

It'll cost you about $1,000 to have the holes filled and the bumper repainted. It's a small price to pay for your perfect car. You can then toss a clear bra over the paint and call it a day.

Absolutely not a deal breaker. My Carrera S was Euro delivery so it had holes and I had to plug them. It doesn't look bad at all. But if it bothers you that much, and the car is right in every other way, just get the bumper repainted. Silly to pass up the perfect car just for that, IMO.

I guess it depends. If you want to keep the car in the garage and show people how pretty it is, don't buy it.
If you are going to drive it as it was intended to be driven, the two tiny holes will soon be hidden by bugs, road dings, and other normal wear and tear.
For me it's a sad sight to see a GT3 or GT3RS that looks like it just came off the showroom floor. I'll bet the car is sad too. It would be like entering Secretariat in a beauty pageant.

I hate the front license plate holder too. But, the bumper plugs are a pretty sweet solution. The GT2 below had a big plastic front plate holder right up until I popped in the bumper plugs. IMO, you will forget about them after installed and enjoy the car! Best of luck either way.

So I had them remove the plate bracket and send me a picture (out of state purchase)... there are SIX holes in the bumper. So my options now are have them repair the bumper, replace the bumper, or just back out entirely. The car is a flat black in color. How confident should I be in their ability to match the paint should I choose to have them repair it or replace it? So sad.. whoever drilled those holes obviously didn't have a conscience
