Great writeup, thanks for sharing. I have had a similarly positive track and street experience with my '07 Z06. Stock except for Forgelines and RA-1s, StopTech brakes, and Sparco Evo seat, and it probably has 45+ track events on it between the previous owner and myself. Lap times are 1:39 at Laguna and 1:50 at Sears driving tidy and conservative. I'm far from the fastest guy out there, and I'll play the age card (69 next week) so I know the car is capable of a lot more, even though it is an early one. Judging by the Z06 group I run with they are very very reliable, and other than routine maintenance my car has had no issues at all.

lol. It does get lonely being one of the few fast cars on the track. My friend Gordon just got some new shoes with R6 so we are going to have some fun at LS and Reno Fernley.
Take a look at the difference in speed at Laguna Seca between a high and low hp car. LS really reward cars with high torque because of the elevation changes. The video below are from Martin's S2000 whom does 1:59 at Thunderhill and could only manage 1:45 at LS. Go to 9:00 in the video
Here is another one. Both the driver and passenger in the S2000 throw up their arms when Gordon and I blew pass them . Go to 3:00 in the video

Here is Mike Skeen in Matt Callahan's (930man) new Z06. It's built with aero, suspension, hp, etc.

I don't think comparing lap times is really quite right. The 997 Cup is such a demanding machine that a pretty good driver even after a year of pounding around in the car on track days is still probably 3-5s off the pace of the car - minimum.
