I'll echo the comments on wet performance, they are amazing in the rain and they provide a great deal of confidence in the wet. The first dry day at my "home" track seemed like they didn't have the same level of grip as MPSC's but it was relatively cool out. The second day out the dry performance has been great and I was surprised to fine my times within a couple tenths of my best MPSC times.

Not that it's important for track duty but the ride and noise levels are much better for the street too and they have pretty substantial rim protectors..... Not anything I was looking for but nice to have for everyday tires.

I have enough inventory on RA1's to last me for a few years but after that I will have to go see how much money I want to spend on tires VS how fast I want to go to see what the next DE tire will be for me.

Car and Driver did a tire test in the latest August edition between 10 performance tires and the MPSS won.
You run shaved RA1, and they leave 2 secs on the table to Hoosier R6 at Sebring. MPSC N-spec cannot touch the shaved RA1 lap times, they are slower, over 1 sec slower at Sebring compared to shaved RA1.

Shaved at 5/32" or 6/32", the MPSS and MPSC N-spec will likely run in the same ball park. Unshaved MPSS with blocks twice as tall as the N-spec MPSC in the RS 3.8, unfair comparison, but still less than 1 second difference at Sebring compared to MPSC N-spec, and around 1.5 secs slower compared to race-spec MPSC.

The race-spec MPSC is faster than the N-spec, within tenths of the shaved RA1 at Sebring, but this tire is good for 16HC or 4 days, after 2 days the grip is gone, after 4 days they are useless. MPSS are way longer lasting.

When you run unshaved RA1 (with blocks of thread at 8/32" depth still better than the MPSS 10/32"), your lap times are vastly slower, the tires chirp everywhere due to block flexing, same thing happens to the MPSS.

A street tire capable of being just 3 secs off of the R6 at Sebring (less than that at smaller tracks) is a winner.

Might be a dumb question but can't we rate tires on the 6/7-3's by the g-force we get in corners before the max slip angle is exceeded? Too reliant on 'feel'? Not an alternative to the above ie times round familiar track, but could be a nice additive metric. For eg on my Bridgestone semis get a 1.2 g on corner 2 of killarney, but touch 1.6 on Dunlop slicks.

Talk to Miller, he bought all the iRacing gear when I did and found out his computer was too big a POS to run it lol . He'd probably sell it relatively cheap.

For what it is - it is an amazing tire - truly amazing.

The first day on the track, it has to go through the scrubbing the release agent out - you will get into ABS, your stopping distances will be longer than you want - it just won't be that satisfying.

After that
- beats the OE tire hands down as a daily driver
- after day 1 of work-in, it is 95% as good in the dry, 300% as good in the rain, 500% better in cooler temps and lasts way, way longer - way longer

It is funny that guys above have mentioned it as a potentially good 'spec' tire - I 100% agree - it would make a perfect DE spec tire - show up at any PCar DE spec lapping day and the expectation is you run the PSS tire - rain or shine - you can cheat by having them shaved.

From an alignment perspective (-2.4,-1.8 f/r) and (33-35,35-37 f/r hot) seems very good for this tire - for the arrive and drive crowd.

Did my first day this year at Mosport in prep for the Mancation crew's arrival and this would be day 2.5 on these tires and my opinion is only getting stronger that this is 'the' arrive and drive and drive home tire for DEs.

If you want them faster, get them shaved at 6/32", they will lose rain grip and gain dry grip, they come at 10/32" thread depth. The version used in the 599 GTO comes at 7/32".

I like this tire as a spec DE Cup tire if everybody else switches. In the meantime, if they run RA1, I will run slicks.
Rad:

Are these tires as fast or faster than the RE-11?

Thanks.

Rad...I agree...I wish this would become the spec DE Cup tire...that would be fun! I truly believe a lot of us would learn a lot from each other all running on the same tire.

i put a set on my street GT3.2 and they feel better (softer) than the cups. the cups were a bit firm, these, less so. not at all scientific, but enough to notice.

my only bitch is that sidewall lip, especially in the rear. sticks way out- well past the lip of the rim, and just past the rear fender lip. i know this is silly, but to me the cups look nice, where these look weird with that sidewall.
