Default 19" track wheels with best cost/performance ratio?

I need a set of track wheels for my '11RS, and am going to go with 19" as I drive to the track and won't be running Hoosiers.

I'm looking for the best price/performance ratio here; I'm not into spending $5k+ for my track wheels. I'm aware there are strength and reliability benefits with the more expensive (i.e. forged) wheels, but given all the expense I've incurred buying the car and setting it up I'm not interested in dropping another bunch of cash on expensive wheels right now. The new OZ challenge wheel from Tire Rack sounded great until I found it only comes in 18". Anybody have any other recommendations? I've been following the classifieds for a bit now and haven't seen any OEM centerlocks in RS sizes come up; do people ever get rid of those?

TIA.

I know. They'd be perfect.... if they were 19".

It seems the conventional wisdom is if you're not running Hoosiers or R1s or old RA1s, 19" has more options for drive to the track tires. Since that's what I do, that's what I want.....

Cantrell had a set of red RS centerlock oem wheels for sale off randolf's car - not sure if he still has them or not though... They were take off when new as the car was stripped and converted to "cup lite" and now has formula 43 wheels

Worth a phone call at least, and local

Oz ultralegerras- best value for money... Many have done fine at the track with them!

Rays- best IMO, full stop... Being sold by Savy but $$

Oz Superforgiatas, strong, forged, more expensive than base Oz and somewhere between the two above...

Just got these yesterday, was going to use them for a reserve set, but... Wheel **** don't get no better...lol. Yes, they are both silver and black (scallop areas are silver), with a clearcoat. And of course bead seat knurling. Unfortunately over $5k

OZ Ultraleggeras are 19", challenge 18". Both under 3k. I have a set of each. You are not likely to find a better wheel for the price.

Forgeline also has many options in 3 pc for just over 3k (RL pricing).

OZ Ultraleggeras are the bang for the buck for a track wheel. I have 2 sets. Zero issues and 12lbs lighter a set over my OE wheels.

If you're driving to the track and are staying on 19"s, you only tire options that I'm aware of are MPSC and MPSS for that car. Why not save your $ and arrive and drive on the stock wheels with the MPSC? If not going to 18"s, I don't understand the need for a dedicated track set...

Pete,

are you keeping these or selling them??

Or perhaps you'll sell me your matte black wheels??

Scott--

Great question; simple answer: Rain.

We get a lot of it here, and sometimes our track days are part rain/part sun (or, more realistically, part not-rain). I don't want to have to cancel every track day if there's a little rain because I don't want to aquaplane all over the place on the freeway while driving to the track in the wet. My plan is to have a set of wheels mounted with MPSS which will be the daily driver tires and can get me to the track safely and acquit themselves quite well on the track on the moister days (and even if it dries out), and then have a set of wheels with true R-compound tires for the dry days (the MPSC that are on the car now, and when those go the new Trofeo R should be out and I'll try those. Or maybe the rumor of Toyo re-releasing the RA1 will come true....)
