Default 1st Laps at Atlanta Motorsports Park

well after all the will there or will there not be a track and 2 years of questioning. we finally have a track. it opened up to members this weekend for the 1st laps before any organization had the chance to get on the track and that might have been a great thing. the track is very technical and absolutely no grip and barely any room for error at high speed. it could've resulted in a lot of carnage for an opening weekend.

so for the memebers 1st laps it went back to the old school follow the leader behind an instructor with NO PASSING. we actually had a chance to go at a decent pace as the instructor tried to lead at a decent speed after a few laps, but we a had yellow vette in front of me that had to short shift b/c he couldnt pass the 98db limit and he had on hoosier wets when then was absolutely no water on the track

i know everyone was wondering about the sound limit, that is still up in the air. i never went full throttle but i only have stock center muffler with side muffler delete. seth thomas had his 4.0 RS out with stock exhaust and he was safe at 96db. we'll have to see how any car with a sharky bypass and etc will do

as for the track, you definitely will be busy in the drivers seat constantly turning, braking, and shifting with no real straight away on the entire track. it has the technicality of Barber, if not more since its shorter than barber by only being 2 miles long. there's guard rail every where with not a lot of room for avoidance maneuvers which will be interesting to see once you get 30 cars on the track and something goes wrong. it even starts coming out of the pits as its the tightest pit out i've ever been through and its a blind corner as you will see from the vid

there still is a lot of work left to be done as there is no room for everyone to bring a truck and trailer. there are no gas pumps and they dont even have booths for the corner workers yet.
however, there is a track and time will tell how well the track does.

here are a few slow laps at the new AMP

It's better than PBIR.
It will be fantastic for Miata's, karts and suicycles.

Very narrow, surprised they build new tracks without any runoff area. I can see the old tracks being build before the invention of seatbelts but these days....

Looks like fun in an autocross kinda way, but we will find out if there's any 5th gear to be had in a GT3 with grip and big brass ones...

Definitely not a HP track... I agree, a huge auto cross is more like it

Interesting. Lots of vertical changes and no real hairpins but no straights either. Sort of like Beaver Run?

Not really, there are no long straights to shoe off his excellent driver skill in a straight line. Lol

Karts will never run there because of the close proximity of the guard rails which could kill someone.

That track looks like a hoot for a GT3!

You should see the actual kart track. It has more elevation than the big track

That's awesome.

On a related note, karts used to race at Road Atlanta up until about 5 years ago when WKA did a track safety study and came to the conclusion that it was the most dangerous track they ran. I don't agree with that assessment since they also ran Louden and shooting the gap in the concrete walls to go from the hill to the roval infield was WAY more dangerous.

I still miss racing at Road Atlanta in karts.
