Default OT: speedster...

i was just thinking the other day how much better the 997 Speedster would have been with the GT3 motor and center exit exhaust...

it would be like a convertible version of the GT3...

by no means a safe track car.... but a nice little bastard for street none the less...

i wouldnt doubt some would have installed roll bar, wheels, harness, CGT seats and some sort of wing with GT3 front downforce.... for "light" track days...

id be tempted....

happy easter everyone!

My GTS would be a better car if it had center exhaust and GT3 brakes and GT3 shocks w/ adjustable sways...

It would have come closer to justifying the $200k price tag as well. As it is, the Speedster is a GTS Cabriolet with an $80k premium for some extra leather and different roof design.

For the $200K MSRP they could of made the split crankcase standard for sure.

Exactly what I was thinking. I did drive a Speedster and loved it, but that price tag was a bit high for some exclusivity.

Default Indeed...

I am told this was the Exclusive dept's plan for both the SC and the Sp. Then things got territorial and the cars got Powerkit motors. A pity in my book, too, because it would have separated the cars from their GTS counterparts...especially the Speedster, which would have been the only open normally-aspirated modern 911 to get the old engine.

Sad how internal politics got in the way. To me the Speedster is a GTS with fluffy stuff, where as the earlier 911 Speedsters are cars that I stop and look at every time I see one. The last one I saw was in Koln 4 years ago.

To me this last Speedster was nothing special. I didn't like the color or the interior...either that is true for most or I just didn't get it...

I have to assume that PDK only offering cost them a fair amount of sales... that and the pricing and narrow choice of colors... and the fact that a GTS is the same car for half the price... and... well you see where I am going.

ever see the price of the 964 Tip speedsters... tip literally screws that car in value.
