I'm not feeling that the N Spec MPSC is really a r-compound rubber...the R888 is stickier it seems.

Come on Toyo redo the RA1...bring it back please...or would some other company step it up and copy the Toyo RA1 and build a sticky long lasting fun DE type of tire.
it was discussed here before. as you are a 245/305 fan -
305/35ZR18 nitto Nt555RII goes into rear with 26.3" diameter,
245/40ZR18 nitto NT01 goes into front with 25.55" diameter.

it will be way better solution than either R888 or MPSC.

This is very innovative. Has anyone tried the combo to see how it works? Maybe I'll give it a shot since I like the RA1's a lot and the Nitto is supposed to be based on that tire.

Any one of the tire companies could do it, but they prefer to sell more tires.. No kidding!

Yeah....I hate the tire situation...only drive to the track r-compound tire is Toyo R888 in the correct sizes for a 997 based car....which is either 245/305 or 255/315. I don't hate the R888 as much as some hear.
Yep....here's the deal with tires right now...

19" R-Compound in stock sizes offer more brands

245 or 235 front
325 or 305 rears
come in these brands:

Toyo R888
Michelin Sport Cups
Pirelli Corsa
Pirelli Trofeo
Hoosier R6

18" R Compoud is overall diameters that work on 997

245 or 255 front
305 or 315 rear
Come in these brands

Toyo R888
Hoosier R6

I hear about running Nitto NT01 245/40/18 front and older Toyo RA1 335's in the rear....but with that wide of a rear I'm not sure the front will have the grip and you can't rotate the car.

Not much left to choose from in 18", however I am finding with the 18" sizes on R888 I am 2 seconds faster than MPSC in stock 235/305 19" sizes. Partly is because the MPSC is not as sticky overall as R888's are.

Should I stick with 19" sizes...? I'm trying out some used MPSC 245 fronts in May so maybe that will help? I'd hate to invest in 18" wheels and then have 18" R Compounds in the sizes I need totally go away as the trend looks to be going to 19 and 20" wheels for sports cars.

Treofeo's are about $400-450 less money than Michelin Pilot Sport Cups. However with the reports here that the Trofeo last 2-3 DE days that doesn't work out since MPSC will last at least 6 days up to it seems 10 DE track days. Depending on track and driver.

Not a 245 nt01 of course, run 275 in front - it works fine with 335 in rear

275 needs what a 10" wide wheel? I don't have the space with my stock Sport PASM suspension. When I had 9x18 CCW et50 the wheels where pushied out almost even with the fenders and there was a few mm space to the shock tower. No way a 10" wide wheel would fit with 275's.

What did you do to make this fit? 275/335 would be fun...I could forget about braking for a few corners! LOL

It does not matter what shocks you have. I have jrz rs.
Strut tops = upper mounts
By rotation of those mounts you make shocks move inside a bit and it makes space for wider tires

They haven't been more money than MPSC over hear...only high price I've seen is what Fabryce from GMG quoted me a while back....other tire places have all been in line with decent prices.

I'd still really love to try out a set of Trofeo's but can have them only lasting 2 track days as some here are reporting. I received a lot of eronious tire info over the years on rennlist so I'm not sure what to believe anymore.

You're the best judge since you know your particular combination of variables best--your car weight, laptimes, ambients and surface condition. My 0.02: guessing from your PCA instructor credentials and assuming you're not "babying" the car with students riding shotgun, your Trofeos are unlikely to survive more than one weekend's duty in 90+ deg FL summers. Two weekends if you really really economize. Anyone telling you they can do more either has the tire preservation skills of Jenson Button or hasn't dealt with Trofeos in real tropical climate.

I think 2 days is extreme... probably those who don't have enough camber or non-optimal alignment or not watching your tire pressures will wear them out superfast... one of our tracks here a friend was running Trofeos on his Cayman R and he is a fast driver... one of the fastest in our group and he was pounding them all day for 2 days and they had a lot of tread left them after the event easily enough for another 4 days at that track (maybe more) ... all this on a track that is known for chewing up tires and some club members even avoid it... having said that the Cayman R is pretty light compared to a 996 or 997 turbo..
