Has anyone tried to mount the iPhone on the roll bar like the go pro? I'm interested in trying this and wondering if there is such a mount...I'd like to see in in car perspective rather than just the windshield mount.

You iphone needs to be mounted with line of sight to the sky. Doubt that'll work with a rollbar arrangement...

I am a bit late to this "party" and I will defer to all your combined experience(s) with HLT as well as othr much more sophisticated timers. Has enyone ever heard of, or tried, Cantrell MotorSports Lap Timer? I got it free through itunes and the CMS lap timer on my iphone is GPS activated. Seems pretty accurate at LRP and WGI. I also went to Walmart ($6.00) and got a cradle that mounts below my radio (in cubby/vacant space) to hold the phone/timer while driving. I've only had a couple of "weak signal" moments and the phone timer has never slipped out. I'm sure that Harry's is better, more sophisticated, more capable, but hey, CMS lap timer is free. Records the sessions, best lap times, etc. Check it out
Note: (I have no affiliation, I am not a paid announcer, I am not a sponsored by CMS, this has not been vetted by the FDA, it will improve your immune system, if you have an erection that last for 4 hours....yady, yada, yada)

The current generation of AIM products are still standard def. HLT shoots 720p if not better with the newer iPhone 4S.
Granted, AIM's selling point is data integration which is miles beyond what HLT does (or aspires to). IMO the AIM product (Smarty + SoloDL) will be a perfect package if/when they release a high-def camera which is reportedly in the works...
Here's a link to a SmartyCam video from my rig. There's limited content in the way of driving skills, but you get a sense of the setup's capabilities:

Don't feel bad about Smarty Cam not being HD rez....Race Keeper advertises it is HD...but it's not HD....which is something I'm still rather mad at Race Keeper about.

AiM replaced my smartycam once for free for new generation one as I had issues with gyroscopes. It is a good company to have business with. Solo DL is still not perfect but it is a best unit in its class on the market, it is a pleasure to use on a track.
