I actually agree with you. A lot of times the seasoned racer will not pull red mist moves, but a weekend warrior DE driver, as a collective, does that sort of thing (get into situations that cause problems) all the time.

To me, that's like saying you're less likely to catch AIDS from a hooker than from some random chick you picked up at the bar. Whenever you get on track your life is at risk. It's a calculated risk, but the risk is there.

Agree - a big part of what keeps me from participating in local DEs anymore. The cars are too fast and have to little safety equipment. I've also witnessed shoe string budgets that force compromises on mechanicals and consumables. Even taking my car out of the equation, I lost interest instructing because I often found myself riding shot-gun in what I considered to be death traps.

Any driver, regardless of talent, who uses a car on-track without a full roll-bar and fuel safe cell is playing Russian roulette each time they go out.

+1. I can't believe how many people go out w/o the proper safety equipment. I was blown away at the number of people in NASA NorCal who were 'surprised' that I have a rollbar/seats/harness/hans in a street car.

I was at that NASA/PRC event last year at Sears Point where the Ferrari lost a fist fight with a Spec Miata at the top of the hill just past turn 2. Some of the things I saw that weekend in the DE run groups would get you black flagged in NASA out here.

Haha, Clarke, that was my first thought. I always thought they were resistant to AIDS since they were professionals in their trade. Oh well. ;-)

Isn't the video a spec e30 race? Mike

I was about to say the exact same thing with the same AIDS analogy... Guess our gears are in sync.
