Default Service after break in

I was going to schedule a oil change for my RS after the break in period and was thinking if I should change out the diff/tranny fluids to clean out any possible metal shavings there may be. My dealer's tech advised against that and said it was not recommended but I recall reading here that some of you have changed out all of the fluids after break in so that was how I was going to approach my first service. Any recommendations on what should be done on the car's first service?

Thanks!

I think an oil change is enough.

Yet, it is a good time to check the wheel alignment after the suspension is settled after 1K miles.

In my case, one of my front wheel alignment was a little off from the factory spec., and my dealer corrected it accordingly under warranty.

An early oil change at the 1,000 mile mark is a smart move. Do a Blackstone used oil analysis too. And keep doing them in the future.

We have seen other Rennlisters do the trans/gear oil early too. I think it's a good idea too.

I did the same thing, engine oil at a 1000 and then I would do tranny as well. Fluids are cheap, down time is not.

better to be safe than sorry. Tranny fluid will run about 200 buck plus labor.

There has to be metal in there too. Smart on your part.

Might as well change the air filter, spark plugs, and brake fluid too. Why not?

I did both the engine, filter and trans oil at 1500km... Like the engine, the trans is new and the gears will start to bed in during this time... Clutch packs from diff share same fluid so may as well get rid of any loose metal filings floating about... Would i go to the trouble for my everyday basher, no! But this ones a keeper, so I want to do the best I can to ensure a trouble free run...

ps. The idea behind the early fluid changes is to remove metal and contaminants from the assembly process... Your gearbox would equally benefit from a flush...

I changed oil/filter at 2K miles. Below is the Blackstone lab report that supports my decision to do so and also suggests frequent oil changes until ~10K mile mark.

^Clifton, great post above! I only wished I started doing UOA's sooner in my car's life cycles. What did your new report look like in 2010? Thanks again.

It's criminal that I haven't put that more annual miles (<=2K/year), but you can see that the wear metals are dropping as Blackstone suggested they would with 2K mile oil change intervals.

Report from 2010:

I changed both the oil and transmission fluids after 800 miles. Now I only change the oil after every other track day.
