4.0 RS is not hype!!!

i just got back from a drive in my 4.0 and wanted to respond to a previous thread by Nizer about the "hype" for the 4.0 being over, and subsequent responses alluding to a nose dive in prices. I have had a number of porsches including a 73 911s, Carreras, turbos, 997.1 GT3, 997.2 GT3 RS, and Ferraris. The 4.0 is a very special car. I am sure the 991 GT3 cars will be fabulous performers BUT they will be quite different. They will not be the shorter wheelbase , Mezger engine, hydraulic steering, and quite possibly even manual 911 GT3 that we all know and love. I loved my 3.8 RS, but I absolutely love the 4.0 that much more. It is that much more dialed in, but it is the engine alone that sets it apart more than the numbers would make you think. There is so much more midrange punch and pull!
With regard to finding one in the near future at a bargain, good luck. The enthusiasts buying this car are very selective and sophisticated
and like you mentioned the few sitting at dealers lots are stupidly
optioned and will sit at above msrp. That one black 4.0 that was for sale has almost
3000 miles and there was a ton of interest at that price of 185k which is very close to his msrp,as it had few options. I am pretty sure the car is sold at that price. It was a very fair price for a low/well optioned car and the enthusiasts appreciated it.
There are only around 125 of the 4.0's in the US and I have a feeling there will not be a lot of cars popping up, even when the 991 GT3 arrives. By the way I also feel the other mezger gt3's will also hold here value well. You are finding a dwindling supply of the 997.2 GT3 RS cars on the market and prices have actually gone up a bit since I sold my 3.8RS a few months ago. The good cars are getting harder to find.
I feel in good company with Chris Harris in that are hard earned dollars have been well spent on a truly special car that we can enjoy today and one that will always be respected as one of the greatest 911's ever made.

well written, but stop spreading this rubbish.
most ppl talk about 4.0 few driven them.
dont let them know what we have. i need the price to tank, so i can buy 10 of them.
just like the orig 500E and 450SEL 6.9 or 600 pullman. you either get it or you dont. pop has 4 450SEL 6.9's. that's all he drives. nothing beats it.
or MB1 MB2, RB1, RB2, or roller cam brakes on newsboy. if u know what your frames, you drool over them. if you dont... well you can ride the latest carbon fiber stuff that i throw away every five years.
back to porsches. the 3.8RS and 996GT3 will be the toys to keep.

funny talking about the benz. i have a 500e, 993TT, RS4.0. for me these cars were symbolize the end of an era which gives it character and collectibility. still dreaming of getting a 930 and a 600SWB (short wheelbase Pullman) to round off the collection.

I'm in between 300 sel 6.3 and 450 sel 6.9. Euro spec.
I'd have one as daily driver with more garage space.
One of those and a keep forever 4.0. And the only transportation shopping I'd be doing the next 40 years is for duallies to haul to the track.

All of the above takes nothing away from the car itself. It's a great car and I'm glad you're enjoying it.
P.S. The black car is still available if you want to add a second one to your garage.

Going a bit off-topic, but when my car got converted at Ruf I had a ride with Alois to lunch in his 500E, it had mega-mileage, maybe 350,000km, but he still loved it and used it as a daily driver (though that was about 6 years ago). The Porsche connection is what made them special.

Never said the car was hype. Said we were over the hump in terms of price hype. It will decline in price over the next few years and find a price level like all modern, high-performance cars. At some point garage queens will likely move higher. How high? Who knows.
All of the above takes nothing away from the car itself. It's a great car and I'm glad you're enjoying it.

but seriously the 3.8 and 4.0 are some of the best cars PAG made in modern days. enjoy. dont jjust park them in the garage. i just took it out with my 3 yrs old this morning. i think he's a bit freaked out with the noise of the car.
the 7 yo girl love the noise. she grew up with lotus, cayman, every type of gT3 taking her to day care. poor max is a farm boy riding my GMC all day.

this site restores and sells 600s. it's quite pricey though. i'm thinking to get a really clean and restored one, you need to spend around $100K maybe more.
