Scud and 3.8 > 4.0
Scud < 4.0
3.8 < scud

I'd take a scud over a 4.0 at the same price. no chance I'd pay 200k for a 4.0 personally...I'll wait til they're in the 150 range or just get an early 997RS

Tough decision. I was in a very similar position a few months ago and went on six speed online to get advice. I secured a 4.0 to order at msrp and was going to sell my beloved 3.8 RS to make the upgrade. I like u realized that for about the same $ I could go scud. The responses were pretty split 50/50 for the 4.0 and the scud. In the end I sold the 3.8 and went for the 4.0 which I ordered just like you would have with pccb's, definitely not adaptive seats but, no sports Chrono but I personally liked the white wheels with the white exterior and love my "whorehouse" red/black interior. Anyway, I guess the 6 speed vs paddle shifting won me over. I also do think the 4.0 may hold it's value a little better than the scud, especially if next GT3 is not available in manual. But then again scud is supposed to be great also, it is a special Ferrari, was around or over a 300k car at msrp. I absolutely love the 4.0. The 3.8 was close to perfection, the 4.0 is perfection. The midrange torque punch is so truly quite a bit better than the 3.8.....more than the numbers would make you think. But the scud is great anld beautiful too. Tough choice!! Great Ferrari vs great Porsche. When the 458 scud version comes out it may eclipse the 430 scud but lots of extra $$$$. Then again the 991 RS will probably perform that much better than my 4.0. But it won't have that Metzger engine, will have electric steering, etc. Anyways, good luck with your tough choice, can't go wrong. The white scud is pretty nice, if you can keep the 3.8 RS and have the scud may be the way to go.

if you already have a 3.8 RS, forget the 4.0L and go straight for the Scud!

The jump from the 3.8L to the 4.0L will not be as intense as the jump from the 3.8L to the Scud.

This way you have one of each!
Treat yourself!

And both are 2 years away from the 991 and 458 versions.....

Go with the Scud... Perfect balance in the garage between your 3.8 and the Ferrari...

Consider this: there will never be a Mezger engined, manual 911, 4.0 is the last in line at the top of the evolutionary tree. 991 equivalent will be faster, but different.
430 Scuderia will likely be made obsolete by the 458 version built on the same principles, therefore very similar in concept.
For me the decision came down to the fact that I will not be able to buy an upgraded 4.0, whereas an upgraded Scuderia is around the corner.
Hope this helps, w

Tuff decision
I had a 11 GT3RS and recently traded it for the 4.0, sorry can't provide any driving experience yet due to the winter.

richk had a thread going here recently about his new F car and that he wanted to sell it for a 4.0. might be valuable to get his opinion.

Optimally 4.0 and Scud, if you can swing it.

Not a ton of options for the Scud. All the 09s and late 08s came with the US carbon package including carbon front splitter, carbon rear diffuser, and carbon headlights. There is color, stripe or no stripe- 8k option-and it's painted on the Scud as opposed to a decal like the Strad and 911s.

There are rare exterior options like carbon side skirts, but those are mostly seen on 16Ms. Then it's just interior trim- standard is tech fabric, but you could upgrade to alcantara or leather. You can get colored stitching, some chose to delete the radio. You could choose to cover the interior foot wells with alcantara, but some like seeing the welds. Brake caliper color is another choice. Of course Ferrari will do almost anything if you pay for it, but these are the major options. Looks like the one you're interested in is well optioned.

I had a Strad and have lived with a Scud for a week. While a Strad is great, the Scud and the RS 3.8 are both better. Shifting and power are much better in the Scud compared to the Strad.

Get the Scud for cruising, you'd still have a great track worthy car with the 3.8..
