Default Dynoed the 4.0 (updated with 3.8 vs 4.0 chart)

Took the 4.0 to TopSpeed Motorsports this afternoon to see what the stock numbers were on it. With 500 miles on the clock I know it is a little early to put the numbers out there but it came back pretty good. 457 rwhp and 325 ft lbs of torque were the peak numbers. Did 4 runs and the last 3 were within 4 rwhp of each other. Will post a chart as soon as I get it emailed to me.

Updated the post a little bit. Now we have the dyno chart that compares a stock 3.8 to the 4.0. Both cars were dynoed on the same dyno on different days but within the same week.

Wow. That makes the 500HP claim to be understated.

That's a hell of a power band. Nice!

Interesting torque dip between 6000-7000rpm. I would have thought that was where the sweet spot was. Or maybe I should think of it as a torque bump at 7000rpm instead!

Would be interesting to have this chart overlayed with the 3.9 and 4.0 conversions done on the same dyno.

What is that about 8% power loss through the drivetrain assuming just 500 BHP. Is that even possible? Are they under-rating the power numbers like Nissan does with the Skyline

GT3 have been vastly underrated since 2004, nothing new.

By the time Seth's car is broken in, it will be in the 470whp range, just with driving miles. Amazing powerband. At 6,000 rpm is already putting more power down than a 996 GT3, and it just goes North until 8500rpm. Add the fact that it is lighter than the 996 GT3, it comes with both shorter gearing, a short R&P, and it must be on a new league.

I noticed the correction factor is STD. What are your SAE numbers? Your SAE numbers should be about 3% less than STD. For comparison, my stock 10' GT3 did 404 rwhp and 298 lb-ft SAE on a Dynojet 100% stock. Jackie at RAC's 10' RS did 434 rwhp on the same Dynojet with GMG headers, GMG center pipe and a flashed ECU.

Exactly! Power band is twice that of the 3.8 - no replacement for displacement.

with the engine being located in the rear the HP loss to the actual rear wheels as measured on the dyno is minimal due to the short distance from the engine to the wheels where power is usually lost.

Cars with front engines have further drivetrain distance to the rear wheels which robs even more power from the crank rating.

i really want 4.0 power in my 997.1

damn!
