I will begin towing my 2010 GT3 / future GT3RS to the track instead of driving. I have done the usual searches on this topic, and am getting quotes from ATC, Trailex and Featherlite. My priorities are weight (tow vehicle is Mercedes ML350 without tow package--approx 5,000-5,500 load) and ease of use first. I want a rock guard, wheel holder, full floor and locking box. I am looking at 17'6"-18' length by 8-8.5' width. Using their webpages I have found the info for comparison in the attachment. Is the weight really that much different between the Featherlite and Trailex bolted? Does anyone know the weight of the ATC in the same size? Also, any comments or suggestions are welcomed.

i have both featerlight and trailex. if money is no issue, trailex is just better.
however, trailex doesn't do FULL floor (i suppose you can have karl custom make one) but no need for full floor really. feahterlight can be ordered with factory tire rack, solid as rock then you can get tool box too. you can open door without removing trailer fender. it's quite a bit lighter than featherlight. try to push them around when unloaded.

 

The Trailex webpage lists a full floor as an option. I was thinking I want it so if I run over any road hazard (tire hunk, 2x4, etc) it doesn't damage any undercarriage component on my car. In your response, did you mean the Trailex allows you to open the car door without taking off the fender, or the Featherlite? Thanks.

 

Are you an experienced tower? I wouldn't put my, well worth a whole bunch more than anything I have, car behind an SUV. Can you? Sure. But the first time you have a problem............

For the past year I've just pulled the faux RS on a lightweight custom open trailer that has been laying around for years, instead of using the stacker. Still have had a few issues/close calls behind an F350 crew longbed.

 

Full floor is an option with Trailex. You need not remove the Trailex fender. Please note that the smaller Trailex (7541) is 75" wide, which is perfect for the GT3 (72"wide) but not so good for the RS (74" wide) unless your trailer technique is perfect. The next size up is 80" wide.

 

I am EXTREMELY pleased with my Aluma trailer. Full aluminum and all joints are welded vs. others. Full floor and weighs in at ~1300lbs. No creaks, just solid. Also, about a thousand cheaper than the Trailex.

 

+1 on this. Even with a GT3, you will appreciate the wider bed. I have the Trailex 8045 and for the RS, if perfectly centered, I have about 3 inches to spare on each side. I also have a full floor on mine which seems nice though I have never had one without. Periodically, you can snap one of these up used too and save about 40% vs new depending on the age of it. They hold their value very well. Door easily clears fender on my trailer too without having to pull down which is nice because eventually, you will be in a rush and forget leading to an oh sh** moment.

 

I bought same trailer as Izzone. Its an aluminum trailex which is very lightweight. Tow vehicle is a BMW X5d

I spent many years towing car and snowmobile trailers as a kid with an assortmant of trailers. Nothing tows like a trailex

I towed 5-6k miles this last year....85-90mph on cruise. Do not even know the trailer is there.

Make sure to get a tounge weight scale (Sherline) and set the trailer up properly (I cant remember the tounge weight Carl told me (maybe 400 lbs)

Only downside is tire rack is high.....and full of tires it eats 3-4 more mpg than empty tire rack

 

I am really leaning towards the Trailex, now with the wider 80" platform based on suggestions above. That way if/when I get an RS, there won't be any issues.

The tow rating for the vehicle is 7,500 for the factory-installed tow package and 5,000 for the dealer-installed tow package. The difference is not in the frame, engine or transmission, but in the transmission radiator, battery, etc. Why could I not pull 4,800 with a 5,000 tow rating?

 

I tow with trailex as well and love it. Tow vehicle is caddy escalade( baller wagon)
