I have featherlite 3110. I have added a huge tongue box, a trailex tire rack I just installed today, and a fuel jug caddy goes on later today or tomorrow. I love the set up. Yes, trailex is probably better....but more expensive too.

trailex doesn't stock/make everything they show on web site, for example the "welded" version of their open trailer. but i am sure they can do it if you want.

on trailex, you can open your car door no prob
on featherlight, you have to remove trailer fender in order to open your door.

Yes, and it is a PITA, made even more so since I lock the fenders on the trailer. Even with the fender off, the door still hits the tires most of the time.

8045 is the smallest you want to get. it comes with longer ramps too. the smaller one has ramp too short for GT3.

too close for comfort, really.
but it's ok. i guarantee you that within 6 months after you buy trailex, you will be posting what tow vehicle to get.

the bid is open. i am now taking money.

The rule of thumb I follow is, tow up to 75% of your maximum towing capacity. The 5000lb limit that your ML has should take 3750lbs easily. You will be able to tow your car and trailer, but you are maxing out its limits.

The ramps are long enough if you supplement with wood or Raceramps. With the 8045 ramps, can you get away without them?

Terry,

I believe its still a little short. Izzone uses race ramps with his 8045. I have the lift kit on my GT3, and it clears it.

I have the featherlite 17.6 trailer and it pulls like a dream with my RS on there. It has the shield and I built a lock box for it and set up a winch system. If I was you I would consider a cheap pick up of some kind to designate as a tow vehicle. I have friends with the porsche and audi SUV and they both have towed the featherlite for their Rs's.

Just my 2 cents.

I guess it is a matter of how much margin you are comfortable with. When you are towing at the max the tow vehicle will be working very hard to keep up and you could get yourself in trouble if things get a bit dicey while trailering. We all have a story or two of some incident while towing and the story generally ends up better when the tow vehicle is actually a "tow vehicle". Also depends if you have a lot of hills etc.. on the way to the track the ML 350 might be underpowered. Short wheelbase vehicles do not provide the stability that you will get with one that has a longer wheel base etc....

Sorry if I seem a bit negative here but I like the ability to pull with a bit more ease, with more stability and safety considering the $95K+ that will be sitting behind you.

I would not be as concerned about the ability to TOW your GT3 as the ability to STOP it. This is where the smaller SUV's struggle.

I had Feather 31110 and now a Trailex CT-8045.

8045 is the perfect open trailer, far better than 3110, and 3110 is the 2nd best in the world.

CT-8045 ships with Marathon, and it weighs nothing, little Cayenne doesn't even feel the trailer.
