+1 Me too.

My ALUMA trailer is light and much cheaper than the Trailex. Trailex are overpriced in my opinion for what you get. ALUMA dealer will also make you a toolbox/tire rack if you need it too.

I have Aluma 8218 - 82 inch wide, 18 feet long, dovetail. Great quality.

I used a brand new AT trailer for a few events before my Trailex arrived and it made me appreciate the few extra $$$ spent on the Trailex MORE!!

Fender removal to open car door..... What a PITA!! Watching a loaded tire rack wiggle-waggling over my GT3 as I'm going down the road was nerve racking.... Loading ramps that split the first time used...

You get what you pay for IMO.

 

With my RS and the lift raised, I still need extensions to my ramps (though I think I have an older 8045 which had 8 foot ramps?) I made ramps out of 2/10's, one longer, one shorter screwed on top of the longer and they work great. Just make sure that you put your fabricated ramp flat on the ground and the trailex ramp on TOP of your ramps. I have seen people put wood on top of the trailex ramp and the rear tire can shoot it backwards under gas, potentially injuring people (and your car).

 

I have the 11' ramps and also "must" use additional ramps to gain clearance... or remove front air dam.

My first season I used 2x10 home made wood ramps and they worked just fine... but RR-TR-5 Race Ramps work slick!

I've got an 8045 which I tow with a diesel Touareg. Excellent setup. The 8045 is well built and, as I found out recently, replacement parts are cheap (banged one of the fenders into a concrete post on the way back from VIR).

 

You can tow with your Merc. I would look at upgrading your brake pads to something like Hawk LTS, or similar, and obviously get a brake controller installed. Stopping is the key. You don't need 800 ft/lbs of torque to tow, just use momentum to help keep your mpg's decent, and give yourself space.

I tow at 100% of the X5's rating, 5000lbs, and it is perfectly fine. I'm lusting after the new X5D, which gets great mileage, but I'm poor....2 track cars = empty wallet.

 

I had a 3110; great trailer and I liked the full deck. It was just short enough in overall length to fit in the garage. A bit heavy at about 1250-1275 lbs as I recall. I didn't really find removal of the fender to be that big of a hassle. Stock ramps were fine for loading a 993 C2s and later an RSA, but they would be too short for a GT3.

I found a Trailex 8045 surge brake w/ tire rack, tool box, and spare tire mount recently. The Trailex tows great as well and the door of my 2007 GT3 clears the fender easily. The 8' ramps still aren't long enough to clear the spoiler tho' so I just remove it. Seemed easier than toting around RaceRamps or dealing with 8X10s.

The previous owner of my Trailex installed 3/4" outdoor plywood between the trailer rails. It took about 1 and 1/2 of another 4X8. It's removeable, bolted to the chassis, and may be an option for you if you prefer a full deck but don't want to pay extra. The Trailex still weighs under 1000lbs with the deck and it's easier to move around by hand to store in the garage than the Featherlite.

Trailex is awesome. The only way to go.
But forget the open trailer - get a used enclosed and keep your baby safe inside. Makes for great storage between event. I bought this last year from a RL guy. I had it for a year, it was great. (sold to get a bigger trailer for 2 cars).
The Range Rover Sport Superchargered had no problem towing. Barely knew it was behind me.
Inside storage to keep your tires out of the elements, especially the sun. Plenty of room to stuff your crap around the car after it is loaded.
And mine was a 1999 model. They have since updated them, made them wider, bigger front storage doors, etc.

 

and then the slippery slope leads you to a bigger trailer and a bigger tow vehicle. 40' enclosed + dually.
