Default Disaster

Here I am, the day after, thinking what the heck? Disaster has stricken my RS. A 2007 with barely 22k miles. The engine just gave out, no missed shifts, just driving along and suddenly a loss of power and a cloud of white smoke. I pull over and find the engine dumping out all of its oil. Bits and pieces of the engine are found along the way which are picked up and photographed. Wow, the bullet proof Metzger engine with a hole punched right through it. How can this happen?

One thing not in question, a rod let go and went through the case. Ugh. Very sorry to hear of this

Wow! I am so sorry to see this

I have been tracking my .1 GT3 without any issues (thank God) for almost a year. Did you have CPO on the car? If there are no over-revs Porsche may give you a new engine.

That is just awful. In hindsight, were there any warning signs you could pass along to the rest of us?

If DME report is clean, Porsche will replace...

I hope.

^ you'd think (hope) they'd replace even with some cat. 1 and 2s.

No warning signs whatsoever. I had hit the limiter several minutes prior to this happening but no other issues.

I saw this on another car very recently too... Sorry to hear about it, but look at the bright side - this is your excuse to do something cool. Maybe a 4.0?

The price of a new case is actually reasonable on the 997.1.

Any money shifts? Do you know roughly how many strikes and what categories your DME has stored? Regardless, I wish you the best with this. It sucks.

FWIW, i have owned two 997.1RS porsches, and both had the crankcase replaced under warranty between 14-19k miles.

Had they gone unnoticed they could have ended up this way.

Front mail seal was the clue on the first car and noise coming from crank case was the clue on the second car.

If the car no longer has warranty or will not be covered under warranty i would suggest finding a replacement from a wreck.
Anybody know if the 997.2 3.8L will work in a 997.1??

Great time to do a 4.0L and change the R&P.......
