Default Problems with your GT3?

I've always wondered if a GT3 is the perfect car or whether there are some owners, who have had problems with the GT3.

So guys, have you ever had any problems, besides a enormous use of petrol and tires

RMS
FMS
Coolant fittings
Poorly programmed ABS

Despite these problems the car is in a league of its own.

Most performance cars even the most basic big block vettes and vipers have a crazy # of problems both mechanical and electrical.

I'm having to push the clutch further in.....(or my legs are getting shorter).....is this a known OPC issue?

GT3 problems (not all of them suffer these traits and all are repairable anyhow so no big deal)

rear main seal leak (typically warranty replacement, upgraded seal available. Most live with small leak and if used on regular basis typically the leak is non existent.)

front main seal leak (typically warranty replacement, can lead due to crank case wear and thus warrant case replacement too)

limited slip differential wear (most people ignore it but you can modify with shims or replace with better aftermarket unit)

calliper thread wear ( convert to studs and nuts like cup car)

coolant hose fitting failure (replace with better fittings)

shifter cable wear (can be replaced with 996 CUP cables however most owners live with it unnoticed)

One of the remote controls quit working. Cost over $3 to replace the battery!

You have to go over speed bumps at an angle!

GT3's are quirky creatures:
  • Front axle lift design flawed (actuator pump located next to major coolant pipes and tends to get "cooked"--mine replaced under warranty but on its way to failing again)
  • Coolant lines (all Metzgers)
  • Potential (*rumored*) weakness with 3.8 variocam units
  • Centerlocks (everything about them is a PITA)
  • Brake squeal in city driving (PCCB)
  • Rattles, boinks, and more rattles

But we keep coming back for more wheel time in these cars. Go figure : )
