Getting new shoes on the .1 and need offset advice
So stock is:
Front 8.5 +53
Rear 12 +68
1. Should I go with a 9" front or stay with the 8.5"?
If I stay with 8.5 what offset should I run?
If I go with a 9", what offset should I run?
2. Since the rears are going to stay at 12", what is the most aggressive/best, if they are the same, offset I can run?
TIA

Depends on what you do with your car.
8.5 is too narrow for front
9" min.
10" preferred, but you need very aggressive offset and lot of camber.
unless you have wheels custom built to your car, your choices are limited, instead of figuring out what offset works, you can only pick from what's available to you.

I heard that 10" won't fit. If they do what's the tire size and offset of the wheel?

rad runs 10" on a 996 with narrower fender. I run 9.5 on 996. but these were custom cut with very aggri offset and I gave a LOT of camber.
talk to custom wheel cutters. I do mean custom not off shelf. gave them measure ur car. and then it's up to u to decide how aggri u want to b with ur car. do u need full lock turning radius? do u want fender liner. do want want rolled and pulled fender.
if u just want to bolt on stay with 9"

Keep the rear offset at 68 - with the 5mm OE spacer that is 63. The net 63 with a 315 R6 Hoosier is perfectly max track - functional and max. If you want to run a 325, then remove the 5mm spacer.
The front really depends on if you are going to track the car - if so, then a 9 at 46 is a good choice - a 9.5 with 40 - this is for front rubber 245 to 265 and with a rotated front strut to reduce caster to spec.
If you are not tracking then 8.5 front with stock to a few mm more outward is perfect with non rotated strut.

anybody else have trouble with their spacers?
we found that perhaps the difference in metals of the spacer and the hub heat and cool differently thus causing the lug nuts to back off ever so slightly due to high heat expansion on the track.
constantly need to be checking lugs with the rear spacers on hot braking tracks....

Not something I've noticed and I also run 7mm spacers on the front but i use lugs 7mm longer for the front. If you consider the rear OE lugs are not 5mm longer than the OE front lugs to accomodate the spacer, maybe Porsche should have made them 5mm longer. At least on the narrow body, if you want to run a 325 Hoosier rear, you have to remove the spacer to fit the tire - a 315 fits 'just' running the spacer.
If they're backing out, I would remove the spacer and / or order new lugs (maybe you have an issue) and possibly order them 5mm longer.

yes, ccw was doing 18x9 +50mm and 7" backspace. i was told more than once that there is a 9.5" rim that fits in front with standard fenders. for 10" wheel you`ll need to modify them.
obviously 10"/12" wheels are more optimal than 9/12.

Our WC-GT and 130 R wheels are available in 9" front and 12 rear = no rubbing with a more aggressive than stock offset.
We can do a 10" front but you will need a fender flair.
We can also build to any offset you need.

I believe it is a 40 offset 19x9.5
I've done the math a few times and that is what my calcs showed for the 997gt3 - you need the strut rotated - that is a must - it is only when you see a strut rotated the first time do you understand how you can shove a lot more rubber in there - and then you need a stiffer spring to hold the car up better - 700# front spring and a 9.5" rim with perfect offset and a little basic fender pulling and you can fit a 275 tire
I tried a few times to pick up these fronts in sales but just missed them.

i have 275 tire on a 9" rim there with 600# spring, strut rotated. car handles OK but 9.5" wide wheel would be better, of course. 40 offset makes sense, too bad CCW does not carve those wheels for us anymore, apparently.
good to know this data, if i`ll see such a matching wheel somewhere i will try it out.

If you have steel brakes, then just get a set of allegeritas (8.5/12) and be done with it. They are strong, cheap, and you can use a small spacer up front to increase front track, which will still increase grip.
A local guy with an RS runs them with 255/335 hoosiers and the car drives perfect. The 255 fits on the 8.5" wheel, not optimal, but works fine.
