I heard someone talking in an interview that they were able to push 4.4L out of the engine. Im not sure now what race team it was but If thats the case, that thing would fly

I wonder if it would alter the characteristic of the engine too much? Whether the rev ceiling needs to be reduced, etc.
One nice thing about the Sharky 3.9 is that it actually revs higher than stock and retain that high revving nature of the race engine.. !

I have the SMG tranny...the car shifts like my old Audi R8V10. For the price delta I will pass on the new M5 for now.
Also, I have heard rumblings Sharky has something coming motorwise for the .2GT3.

I have heard a lot of conjecture about the "lunatics"at Sharkwerks doing some sort of 4.0+ conversation for the .2's. I don't know if a lot of you are aware that it took the lunatics the better part of 2 years of R&D before they released their 3.9. I can't confirm no can I deny that they are considering anything in the works for the 3.8 motors, however what I can confirm is that if they do deceide to take on such a project that it won't be released to the public until it is as perfect as the 3.9 which I now drive and love! We can only hope! I'm sure I will be one of the first to know.

I bet it's actually 4.26 (106mm pistons and 80.4mm RSR stroke). Both of those are available off the shelf and I'd be surprised if they developed a new crank with 81.2mm stroke to hit that magic 4300 cc.
What's interesting to me are the realistic hp ratings found on Manthey's site:
"In the case of the 3.9l-conversion (for 1st gen.), An increase of 35 hp and 35 resulting from the use Nm include special pistons, liners and Kat-manifold element. Rounding out the enhanced performance Cup flywheel, special spark plugs, clutch and sport tuned Motronic. With the 4.1l-liter engine (. For 1st Gen) Manthey puts a shovel on it yet: 65 more horsepower and an increase of 70 Nm are the proud result of engine design á la Manthey. New sucker-highlight is now the full geTÜVte 4.3 l engine, which enabled 510 horsepower and a significant increase of 65 Nm!"
As far as I'm concerned, the only guys doing actual R&D are the ones convincing manufacturers like Mahle, Capricorn, etc to produce the pistons & liners to make these builds happen. I don't think any tuners on this board have that claim to fame.
