Default OT a little bit: justifying a new 911

I need a mathematician, how do you find out the prime time to buy?
In other words, I want to minimize my loss on my current 2009 C2S
I want to minimize my outlay for a new 911 whatever that is lets just use
the 2012 C2S for this example since I dont think the GT3 is out yet is it?
But anyway how do you factor in Maintenance when you lose your warranty,
minimize your loss on your current car, because at some point the devaluation
gets drastic besides when you drive it off the lot. I guess milage would be an issue.
Anyone got any real good spiels. I have a feeling that I have either bought my
last one or this next one may be my last one.
The only thing I know is I am car sick in the head.
Use what ever models you want and cool theorems I can use to look at the money map. thanks

Thankfully I'm not the only one.

If I were you, I would not change. The 991 is substantially more expensive and so far every road test has shown it is no better in performance than the 997.2.

Calm down, wait for the real car to show up, test drive, and you will realize that the incremental improvement of the new car is not worth the trade-in of your 09 plus lots of cash.

2 years from now when 991 is everywhere, it will not have that specialness anymore.

You WANT the 991. Chris Harris said it is that good.

The car has more room, better interior and with the chrome accents around the side windows it looks like an Aston Martin killer.

Your 997 will depreciate either way, therefore you should enjoy every mile now before you trade it in.
Drive it and get your monies worth. Dont let it leave your hands with low mileage.

Dont be afraid to treat yourself to an upgrade with each body style change. You only live once. Move from 997 to 991 and in 5 more years if you are lucky enough, get the latest greatest again.

What you need to do however is wait for the the 2013 991 GT3 to be released, if it is PDK and liveable every day then treat yourself one last time, if not, THEN get a new or slightly used 991 C2S with your 997 trade in.

TC you are reading DIRECTLY into my processing RAM in my brain.
9972RS, there MAY be a day shortly, that I can do that but now it would impossible.
Well it wouldnt if I traded in my wifes 335 and my X5 4.8. But I love the X5. I got
a rare truck and only a Cayenne is going to replace that but I havent driven one good enough
yet.
Point being we are in a tense financial situation right now that may be come lucrative or not.
So I would HAVE to lose the 997.2 which I think is spectacular.

It's always cheaper to keep your existing car. Mike

no real way to minimize dep'n. if you dont drive it, you lose less but then you never enjoyed it, so that seems you lose more??

new is not always better. if my back wasn't bad, the best bikes are still XLM custom hardtail, RB1 RB2, ritchey etc. none of the new FS touches them. but there's always fad. cheapest way is to buy one car and drive it to the ground, and that car should be a honda.

we are all throwing money out the window.

I've seen the 991 up close. Sat in the drivers seat. (Dubai motor show).

It looks nice. When you lift the engine decklid it looks more like a workbench now than a traditional Porsche 911 engine. All the fluid fill points are neatly marked and horizontal. An 8 year old could do your fluid top up.

But the price point... is astonishing. And for what? A Panamera interior, electric steering, a little bit more power, a teeny bit less weight... I don't know. I'm not sold. The car looks a bit Cayman-ish from the front, and a bit Panamera from the back. I know it sounds weird. But thats what I noticed.

I know a lot of people who like to have the latest and greatest, and can afford to do that. Good for them, and no harm in that. But personally I like to know what I am paying for.

Thought the 991 S was as quick as the current GT3 at the Ring? Incremental improved perfromace will always be there with the latest model - look at the 997.1 GT3 vs. the 997.2 GT3.

Paul,

You need a PDK. Upgrading (+$60k) for a proper 991S is a waste of $$$.

Wait less than a year, and pick up an used 2010 Turbo with PDK for less than $100k, if you are car sick. Get the car through a dealer with CPO (6 years, 100,000 miles warranty).

In 2013 there will be a new GT3 with PDK, but you would need to wait until 2015 for that car to have an affordable price on the used market. So, enjoy the Turbo for 3 years, then jump into a GT3 with PDK.

If your back gets better, then get a 2010 GT3 (not the RS), and the moment is now: $95k average. A 2010 GT3 might lose some value, but so will your 09 Carrera S, in a similar amount.

Watch me.. I have no real interest in a 991 till say 2020, but that seems unlikely. Maybe a bubble wrapped 4.0 when it's time to throw the 3.8 away.
