Default Those of y'all with .1GT3 do you take your children for rides? **airbag ?**

So my 4 year absolutely loves riding in the Porsches. Up until now, I have always had a back seat for him. However, with the impending acquisition of a .1GT3 he would have to ride in the front. He is 4 years old and about 40# if I remember correctly.

So......how do those of y'all with young children gives them rides? I'm assuming a booster seat like I do in the back? Anything else? I've read conflicting info on deactivating airbags and weight in the seat of the child, etc..

Thanks for any replies in advance

order the module that you de-activate the airbag with a manual switch on the outside of the glove box

or, if you aren't doing the 1/2 cage thing, do the rear seat belt install that a few have done (no lawyer comments please - just offering alternatives)

Just saw something on the Suncoast Parts website LINK but it says professional installation. If I need that I would just have to go ahead and order through my local dealer.

What about the weight sensor that should already be in the car?

Thanks for the link on the alternative. I'll probably get a 1/2 cage at some point but that is an option to explore as well.

I have to re-read my manual - I thought the auto weight sensing was for a multi force explosion (less and more force) - I didn't and don't think it de-activates the bags - thus the switch.

And I've removed those seats for the 996 clubsports - so I had these de-activated - the module turns off the airbag.

Interesting. Not pressing but if you have a sec to let me know what it says or even scan the page I'd appreciate it. I'm pocking up the car this weekend and trying to prepare myself for when I get home and my boy wants a ride the second I pull in the drive!

my 6 year old with his booster seat does not cause the automatic airbag shutoff to turn off. he has been in porsche GT3 since he was 2 years old and no problems. he probably has more laps on the ring than any other 6-yr old too :-)

i push the seat all the way rearward when he rides. i run the half cage in back. he is snug as a bug in a rug.

I have added the airbag on off thing for the passenger seat. I am thinking about adding it to my GT3, as I have young kids as well (8 and 5). The laws in Canada state that any child 12 and under need to have a shut off if sitting in the front seat. Not sure what they are in your area, but is a preventable injury worth the cost of a OEM shut off kit and the cost of installing it?

Agree. Just not familiar with what is or isn't the way the system works.

Dell you have to install a switch..

OWM Child Restraint System
General information
Child restraint systems must not be used on the bucket seat.
DANGER

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Risk of serious or mortal injury from passenger airbag if not switched off when using a child restraint system.
If children weighing up to 27 kg are going to be transported in a child restraint system on the passenger's seat, the passenger airbag must be switched off. If the weight is more than 27 kg, the passenger airbag should be switched on.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Seek appropriate advice from your Porsche partner about the possible installation of a Porsche child restraint system.

Information

The key switch for switching off the passenger airbag and the Isofix attachment bracket are not installed at the factory. They can be retrofitted.
Consult a qualified specialist garage. We recommend that you use a Porsche partner for this work since these are staffed with trained personnel and have the necessary parts and tools.

DANGER

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Always observe the separate installation instructions for your child seat.
When using a child restraint system, it is vital that you observe the legal regulations applicable in your country.
Use only child restraint systems recommended by Porsche. These systems have been tested and adjusted to the interior of your Porsche and the appropriate child age groups. Other systems have not been tested and could entail an increased risk of injury.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please observe the chapter "Switching passenger airbag on and off".

Children up to 9 months old
Children of this age must be held in a restraint system which is installed on the passenger's seat facing backwards.
The passenger airbag must be switched off.

Children aged between 9 months and 6 years
Children of this age are held in child restraint systems facing forwards.
The passenger airbag must be switched off.

Children aged between 6 and 12 years
Children of this age are held in child restraint systems facing forwards.
The passenger airbag must be switched off. The passenger airbag must be switched on for children weighing over 27 kg.

Do not install a child restraint system on the passenger's seat.
Have the fault remedied immediately. Consult a qualified specialist garage. We recommend that you use a Porsche partner for this work since these are staffed with trained personnel and have the necessary parts and tools.

This is all very interesting and useful. Considering selling the Denali Yukon and getting a 2009 M3 - 4 door. As you know I have 3 boys. So, I guess I could put my oldest in front with the air bag shut off. Driving the car with all 3 boys would be a rarity. Only once in a while do I have to pick up or drop off kids at daycare. So, tired of driving that big damn truck. So this gives me hope....
