Thank you all for the clarification about Hennessy Porsche. We will never- NEVER sell a new car for over MSRP. Of the few 4.0's we had allocated to us, all were pre-sold.

When a new Porsche is orderd, it will *always* show up on our webstie and look available even though it is not. This is an auto-load feature that we can not disable.

Desert Motortsports in Palm Springs (Rancho Mirage?) has a White 4.0 for sale. I was in Palm Springs 2 weeks ago and went to that dealer and asked about the 4.0 setting in back. Said it was in for service but had another was on its way - pre-sold. So apparently it wasn't pre-sold or the guy changed his mind.

Maybe some people (me included) are starting to realize that the new 991 is basically a GT3 without the wing. Same times at Nurburgring. that says something.

Same laptime does not mean same car (they are very different - I've driven both).

uh... no.
73RS if painfully slow by today's standard, but i'll take that over 991.
964RSA, RS are also bloody slow compared to 991, i take those over 991
my lotus is a POS in most respect, but i take that over 991.

i'll reconsider when 991GT3 is out.

speed is only useful when you get paid for racing.
feel is what i like.

New 991 is NOT basically a gt3. Very far from it. All you have to do is drive both for a couple minutes and you wouldn't be saying that. I am all for change and really like the 991, but it is no way a GT3. Like Mooty said, it'll be interesting to see the 991 GT3.

You give them a deposit and spec out a car and know it will be there at MSRP when the allocations come available.
I had the same experience -- I ordered a then "unobtanium" 997.1 GT3 (trading over MSRP from the gougers, they could have sold it to anyone for $5K over msrp at the time, RS's were $25K+ over sticker) and they were true to their word, including delivering the car expedited to my door. Excellent management.

Well, let's all drive the 991 and have it on track for a few dozen laps and not judge the book by its cover. I think Porsche AG started out on the wrong foot by emphasizing the engineering changes to make it more appealing to their target markets. With a half a day driving the 991 on the street, the feel of the car is a 911: rear bias weight transfer, throttle-steering, light in the front, pointy. The suspension is communicative and still providing information rather than suppressing road surface in favor of comfort and NVH levels. I still dislike PASM, but somewhat ironically, that I can feel PASM making simple mistakes tells me I can still feel the car itself, not some computer synthesized algorithm designed to protect me from myself. That's not to say I'm enjoying the new steering box, but it's far, far too early to settle in. I wish they'd gone to the Cup steering (electric driven hydraulics) but I'm guessing some bean-counters and technophiles got together and had a spreadsheet orgasm devising stability control and feedback systems in an electric box, fewer parts, cheaper R&D, better MTBF and less liability -- leaving it to engineering to then make at least a very good version 1.0 product.

I want to at least track the thing a few times, dial in the alignment and get a feel for it as a Carrera, not a GT3.

As for the perennial question of feel versus outright lap times, my pendulum has swung towards the feel end of the spectrum. I reveled in the joy of the 3.8 RS carving out record lap times but being a street car and I'm sure the 4.0 RS is more of the same. Today, I find more appeal in a factory race car like a 996 era Cup brought up to its latest '05 updates -- appealing to the "raw and visceral" more than the financial pursuit of shaving tenths in a state of the art 2011 car, be it Cup or RS.

I always get a good chuckle when someone "talks out of his ***" because he read a few words somewhere and he obviously has NO clue about reality !

I too have driven both (back 2 back) and you have no clue what your talking about!

BTW, a Panamera Turbo S does 0-60 in 3.6 ............. so I guess it is basically a GT3RS 4.0

Thanks for the laugh !
