They'll just go with more displacement. I'm no engine expert but my understanding of why they are retiring the Metzger crankcase for the 9A1 is because they have reached the displacement limits of the current platform.

A 5.0, 625HP N/A GT3RS would get me saving pennies again.

you need more than 450HP? more torque? why?
not having enough fun now?

what would be the point? most in here can't even drive a 996 mk1 to its limit..

I want the next gt3 to be 1250kg and analogue..
oh wait a minute..

OK, OK. Good point.

Fun is most important, but getting point by's is fun as well as long as it is not at the expense of driving fun and dependability like GTR, etc.

Still I'd take 4.0 over a 3.8, etc.

It must be lighter otherwise it is no good.

And kill off the buyers in short order. Good for the trackies (many of the RL GT3 folks ), you and I would dig it, bad for repeat buyers as newbies and the more-money-than-brains crowd would be maimed and killed in short order.

I though that's what Fiats and Lambo's are for?

... and there is more room in the 9A1 for greater the 4.0 displacement???

I guess we will have to wait for the 991 Cup to see what's in store!

I think a lot depends upon the Motorsport guys plan for the 991 Cup and RSR since I am assuming that whatever powers that car will form the platform for the GT3 & RS ...

part of me is secretly hoping that when they announce the 991 cup that it has a mezger engine in it!!! or its a hybrid!

You have to imagine that the 991 will have at least 3.8 or 4.0 making somewhere between 450-500...

another thought ... I think the 911 is also likely to be "constrained" in the same way the Boxster/Cayman is in order for it to fit under the Panamera and the "mid engined" platform rumored ...

During the same question and answer period with Wolfgang Porsche on Saturday at the PCA tent at Rennsport, someone asked if the rumored new mid engined model (the 'Ferrari-fighter') that is to fit above the upcoming 991 gt3 RS/gt2 RS but way under the uber-alles 918 Spyder was to be believed. Wolfgang answered with a resounding 'NO'.

However, I am not 100% certain he understood correctly the question before he answered it. There were other times when a Porsche PR guy would translate in German the question because he didn't quite understand it. So I don't know if this was the case in this instance and he misunderstood. He could have, for example, assumed the question meant a replacement for the 911, rather than an additional model. Remember this was a PCA crowd where the 911 is omnipotent. And all members of the Porsche family know well not to touch that dangerous 'electric' third rail in Porsche myth...remember CEO Dr. Ernst Fuhrmann?

In any case, I don't feel as confident of this particular answer as I did of the direct responses I got to the PDK question on the 991 gt3 from both Detlev von Platen and August Achleitner!

Saludos, Eduardo
