The reverse could also be argued.

Any 911 could be said to be just to be a better version of a Boxster, which here in England now is a very cheap used car, which you can buy starting at AUD 6,000. Yes SIX Thousand Aussie Dollars. Boxster S 3.2 start at AUD 8,000.

BTW 996s start at 15,000 AUD equivalent........

Maybe next year Lexus will bring the "nurburgring edition" to the race.

Sat in friend's LFA, the downshift is what you're paying for! What a sound,... as for the rest of it, it is a soft car. The GT3 is much more raw of a drive. I love the GT3 because of the manual gearbox. I can't get over paddles. I hate them in my ISF, but at least the wife likes it.

What exactly is the Speed Sport Direct Shift transmission? Is it a sequential dual clutch like PDK or a single clutch like Ferrari? IS it a glorified automatic but still has a torque converter? I read that it does blip and rev match on downshifts, right?

Similar to the single clutch set-up in the F430 or E60 M5 (SMG).

I had the opportunity to flog an LF-A around the north track at Autobahn here in Joliet and I think it's a very good car. I am not as close minded as some list members here so I don't have prejudice against it for being a Lexus. I do have prejudice against it for being as expensive as it is. I felt that the car should be priced akin to something like the SLS, not the Aventador. It simply does not warrant the pricetag, at least the non-Nurburgring version I drove. I also did not like the single clutch gearbox, and prefer the dual clutch setup in the 458 and my GTR.

The car had very solid neutral handling, put down power well, and the braking was very good. It sounded great but I wasn't very impressed with the interior. I am very surprised how car they were able to dramatically lower it's ring lap time but a lot of the speculations as to how seem to make sense.

FWIW, I personally think my GTR would have lapped faster than the LFA I drove, and without question my modified GT2 would also have been much faster on that particular track.

Sick !

I knew the 2010 Viper ACR with the improved gearing and revised aero was going to beat its own 7:22 record, because gearing hurt the 2008 car plenty at the Nring.

Dodge tested the 2010 ACR at Laguna Seca and they improved the lap time by 1.2 secs compared to the 1:35.12 set by Randy Pobst with a 2008 ACR. With less skills than Randy Pobst the Dodge driver did it in 1:33.9. The Dodge boys knew they had a 7:15 in the bag for the Ring, but needed to prove it.

The entire effort for this week NRing street car track record has been supported by Dodge, and a private dealer with 2 unsold 2010 Viper ACR.

They did it ! 7:12 with a car as delivered from the showroom, 20 secs faster than a 2010 GT3 RS 3.8, 17 secs faster than the 2011 GT3 RS 4.0. Amazing lap time.

The ACR-X should be capable of 6:58, the Michelin slicks are about 2 secs faster than the MPSC per minute, based on the data I have from my 2007 GT3 RS running MPSC and Michelin slicks.

I saw one of these lapping Nordschleife yesterday. It was apparently industry pools test day as there where new Porsches and BMWs etc. as well. Lexus made great sound when passing the pits at 300 kmh..

viper had a german nring support team in addition to chrysler for this record run. they set up the suspension, etc just for this run. still amazing time but just saying...

ps does anyone think these leftover 2010 vipers will become collector cars anything like the leftover cobras that sat in ford dealerships in the 60's?

The 2010 Vipers are the last of the "no driver aid, bare bones".

If you want a raw viper that is an absolute weapon then the 2010 ACR is it.

The 2012 Viper will be more refined with electronic aids..... but still will be cool.

Think of the 1992+ vipers as the 1965-1972 big block corvette era. They will be collectable and still fun to drive. Not the same as Cobras, but close.
