Do you guys think that the difference will go down next year since more 4.0L will be delivered? Or, will it go up even more?
I bought a green 2008 RS last May and regretting lately for not going for the 3.8L in the first place. Trying to figure out when will be a good time to upgrade. Btw, mine already have 11k miles and doesn't matter about miles on .2 but the car they quoted me only has 2300 miles.

Isn't it more like $30,000-$40,000. Plenty of .1 RS at $95,000 and .2s at $135,000...

the delta is going to stay that way for a awhile.... large delta.... for the sake of slightly bigger brakes, engine and gearing it is not worth the delta if you already have a 997.1 and now with 991 around the corner, why bother??
enjoy your 5 lugger until the 991 GT3 is launched 2013....

i dont understand the Q.
but 4.0L RS is not in the same mkt as 3.8L. the prices will not affect each other.
3.8L is MUCH better than 3.6L. how much more ? i pay 50k for delta any day.

The 4.0RS won't cause any change to the market, they are all spoken for, they will carry a premium and they are making a small batch. If anything, the 4.0RS will help the 3.8RS to re-gain value, especially when track day drivers find out that it is just marginally faster than the 3.8 RS.
I also think the 997.1 RS is overpriced today, it should be a $80k car. RMS leaks don't help resale on that series either.
I have been on track with different 3.8 RS and skilled drivers, it is amazing how fast it is on high speed turns, I have to start coasting or braking in the Fiat while they are on the gas. I drove the 997.1 RS plenty, and have data from the same tracks with the Fiat, and there is not a single thing that the 997.1 RS did better than my Fiat, except a very high speed turn (135mph turn).
Consider that on similar tires the 997.2 RS 3.8 lapped the Nurburgring 10 secs faster than the 997.1 RS 3.6, that's a decent gap.
At VIR, the 997.2 RS should give you 2-3 secs faster lap times immediately. No RMS leaks so far. Ipod link (which is $$$ on a 997.1 via aftermarket), PDEM, the super nice carbon sets that cost $6k aftermarket.
If you shop wisely you could get a 997.2 RS for $115k today, and probably get $90k for your Green RS.

My 997.1 non-RS seems to be the floor of the market. With the mods I've got I'm probably quicker than a stock 997.1 RS, maybe equal to a 997.2 and certainly slower to a .2RS. With the 4.0 on the way and more and more .2s showing up, the .1 crowd is going to have to trade up to keep up, or spend $$$ to mod their way up.
Personally, I'm torn between going all out on my 997.1 (which includes a SW 3.9), or wait till 991. But 997.2 are no longer an option..

Ken, I think the delta between 997.1 RS and 997.2 RS will go up next year and only come down on 2013 and later when the new better GT3 hits the market.

if the 991 wasnt around the corner, and you had 25-30k to burn on the delta it would be fine.....
but alas the 991 is approaching... and not many people in the used market like to burn 25-30k deltas for comparable chassis...
