Close Call - for the GT3 and The Wife
So we are slowly settling into our move to S. Florida and one observation I noted the past few days is that S Florida absolutely has the worst drivers in history.
Case in point:
I am following my wife up the Florida Turnpike this AM to take care of some personal business when a white compact comes hauling *** past me in the GT3 and the wife who is driving ahead of me in a company car. The white compact starts a tank slapper, hits a dump truck in front of my wife - which causes one of the wheels to the truck to COME OFF.
Guess where the wheel went? (see pic below of the wife's company car)
The wheel then went sailing over me (barely) and bounced into the Southbound lanes. Luckily the wheel didn't strike any other vehicles. The wife and all involved survived without a scratch - but I'd hate to think what would have happened if the wheel impacted a couple feet more right.

I had an old infinity in front of me yesterday and the hood flew up and slamming on his brakes to just stop on the 3rd lane of I95!! Just a typical day on the road here...
I bet 90% of the accidents are caused by Isuzu troopers and Toyota corolla's with window tint falling off the windows and 4 bald tires and no brakes... They drive SO bad, they can't even keep the cars between the lines or off the curbs through the corners.

This is the stereotypical case of reckless driving which should be dealt with properly. 2 items:
1 - the guy who caused the accident should lose his license permanently.
2 - the truck owner should get a stiff fine for equipment failure.

Florida DOT showed up for the Dump Truck. If you know anything about Florida DOT fines -- they don't mess around. I'm sure it was painful for both drivers.

You guys are seriously lucky. Two years ago here in Atlanta, a wheel came off of a car, bounced over the concrete divider and struck a car heading in the opposite direction, killing the driver.

+1. I've read of plenty of motorists being killed by semi wheels. It could have completely crushed your wife's car. You are VERY lucky.

Exactly! That happened here in Upstate NY a few years back.

HOLY CRAP! That is crazy. I am glad everyone involved is okay!
Reminds me of a story from when my sister was in ICU from a car accident. We meet a family that is in the waiting room whose father was riding a motorcycle, was struck by an errant trailer tire after it bounced over the concrete median. He never saw it coming.
