i am in st.petes and i can tell you first hand that the roads are full of white trash in beaters and senior citizens who drive oversized cars and cant see over the dash.
the south is like a free for all. The majority have no idea what is going on and probably have no license or insurance (or shoes)
one motorcyclist is killed every week.
ahhh, the good ol' south

So we are slowly settling into our move to S. Florida and one observation I noted the past few days is that S Florida absolutely has the worst drivers in history.
...
The wheel then went sailing over me (barely) and bounced into the Southbound lanes. Luckily the wheel didn't strike any other vehicles. The wife and all involved survived without a scratch - but I'd hate to think what would have happened if the wheel impacted a couple feet more right.

So glad you and your wife are ok.
As for Florida drivers...learn from me...first hand...I lost my entire left leg due to a typical Florida driver.

+1 on the clueless drivers here - a toxic mix of seniors (who do not have to take driving tests to renew their licenses, thanks to gutless legislators), immigrants who have first languages other than English, no enforcement of insurance requirement, no required vehicle inspections, and the ubiquity of texting and look-ma-one-hand phone calls which are not prohibited (like I said, gutless legislature allergic to "over regulation"). Sigh.
