I have a brand new set of Forgelines for the 997.2 GT3 narrow body. Mounted with R6, everything brand new - $4500 shipped

If you wanted - I can swap the tires with a set of R888 which are also new...
Why do you say 18" all the way? Is it because younger selling set?

Will 18's be lighter? I prefer 18's myself. The cost differential with tires adds up over time. I'm still going to put my wheels in the storage unit in Sebring. As soon as I burn up the RA1's, going to move to 18" R6's and be done with it. No point in struggling trying to find the magical street tire you can drive on the track that actually fits right.... It's getting old wearing them out on the ride over and it never seems to fail to rain on the ride home. Putting some rock hard compound on the stock 19's and going to drive like a normal person on the street again without the noise and fear of the wet

Technically yes but when I weighted my CCW 18" with R888 they weight the same and about .5-1lbs heavier than my stock 19" Carrera S II with PS2's.....go figure.

It really depends on the wheel and tire combo 19" OZ's with R6 for example will weight less than CCW 18's with R6.

Deputy, mdrums - Do R6's wear considerably faster than R888? I got 6-7 DE events out of the R888's.

Ugh, I wonder if its worth it to go to R6 from R888. I can deal with losing a 1-2 sec for a longer lasting tire....

I got 25 heat cycles on the my GT3 shod R6's.......but I did rotate side to side and flipped them on the rims.
Does it get a little more interesting after the about 15 ? Sure it does, but thats what car control is all about.

R888's are completely misunderstood on this forum. On a 997 GT3 Mk1 or Mk2 run them at "Hot" pressures 30 psi front and 32psi rear for OEM 19 inch sizes. No more!!!!! Yes they are quite greasy with higher pressures, but I highly recommend trying these lower pressures - they have worked perfectly for me over the past two years and 50+ track days.

I drive to the track with cold pressures of 30/32 and bleed down as the temps and pressures go up during the first session or two ("you" should be warming up with your tires anyway!!!), and keep an eye on them during the day. Be sure to put some air in at the nearest gas station for the drive home at the end of the day.

30/32 HOT!

Cheers!

I sort of agree with this....I noticed that even though Toyo recomends 32-38 hot and the higher psi for cars that weight more I started to run them at 33-34 hot and they worked really well. I have not gone down to 30/32 hot like you suggest but will try that next.
What gets me with R888 is that it seems like after somewhere around 12 heat cycles the tires start to fall off some then after another DE drive to and from the track at around 18 heat cycles which is about the 3rd or 4th DE day they are down to the wear bars but have cycled out for me. I can still drive them but no where near when they were in their prime.
I talked to Toyo about this a while ago and comparing to the RA1 and Toyo absolutly claims that a shved to 4/32 R88 is faster than a shaved 4/32 RA1...same rubber compund but a better designed and built tire. What I told Toyo was a shaved R888 would be good for about 1 maybe 2 DE's then it's done and with a RA1 you can keep going....they did not agree.

See if Bob Woodman has any Pirelli Trofeo's in stock....same price as R888 supposed to be a better tire.

Did you get my emails about the Forgeline deal????

If they're burnt out after the 3rd or so DE, then you're back to the wear of R6's As soon as I even approached the wear bar on the R888's, they just stopped working. To the point where it wasn't event enjoyable. Just slipping and sliding. The fact that you can't really use them on the street (just too damn noisy), takes them off the list for me. I would rather use a Michelin SS for a to and from track tire than go back to the Toyos. Especially after trying the RA1, I was even less impressed with the R888's. Shame the RA1's can't be had any more.... Best of both worlds.

Much lighter car too...a little slower lap times
