Default 18's or 19's for Track DE's?

I have a 997.2 GT3 with PCCB's. Been doing crazy research on track wheels and decided on Forgelines. Really nice clean wheel.

Mike (mdrums) and I have talked endlessly about the issue, with him suggesting 19's. The choices of 19's in R-Compound tires seems to only get more popular, while 18's seem to be dwindling. (Really, its down to R888, and R6's) I dont mind R888's at all, so that wouldnt be too much of a problem.

I guess my question is, with the tire choices limited, is it still worth it to get 18's for a GT3? Is there a signicant downside to running 19's on DE events?

You will learn to hate r888

Go 18, Hoosier and buy a tire trailer

Greek you can run Hoosiers on 19's too....18" no longer provides any tire choices....19 is the new 18. The new 991 will have 19 on the Carrera and 20 on the S version...18's down the road in the sizes we need will be hard to get unless we run slicks and trailer.

You and I drive to the track...I'm personally not getting a trailer and having to pay to store it somewhere and a truck to pull it. I try to relax and enjoy DE's for what they are.

Yea, trailer is a no go for me. I need a tire so I can drive to the track. I really dont mind R888's, but then again, I havent driven a GT3 with those tires.

Any performance dip running 19's vs 18's?

I think if you are driving to and from track on r compound street tires then it does not matter

Got to agree with Mike, if driving to-and-fro, 19 is a no-brainer in my humble.

18" are for people with two sets of matching track wheels and trailer.

stick with 19" and if you see another set of used aftermarket or stock 19" wheels then grab em' for the track so you can damage them without caring.

at the end of the day you will have a nice collection of 19" tires to mix and match for street and track.

Correct. Having a tough time to get tires for 18s. this trend is bad, if the 20s become the new 19s.

18" does not provide any advantage for us who drive to/from the track anymore... Not much choice in terms of r-comps.

19" is the better choice since your choices are wider

19's for sure, but, I haven't been pleased with R888's. There are better choices out there for the GT3 IMHO. If price is an issue, try the Michelin SuperSports. Might cost you 1-2 sec a lap, but, the tire is an excellent street tire. At $1500 a set, you can't beat them, especially for you drive to the track guys.

18s all the way like I told you on the phone!

I have a brand new set of Forgelines for the 997.2 GT3 narrow body. Mounted with R6, everything brand new - $4500 shipped

If you wanted - I can swap the tires with a set of R888 which are also new...

Yeah I'm wondering how the Michelin Super Sports would compare to the R888 on the track. I definitely don't want to go backwards in lap times.
