By stock, I mean this was still a street car, not significantly lightened or turned into a track stripper. It had fresh Yoko slicks, surely worth considerable apex speeds, so along with the suspension tweaks, by "stock" I don't mean "showroom." : )
The gearing is different and clearly the exhaust and map tweak are doing something, but given it's completely outgunned by the 3.8 RS, it was doing sensationally well in the business of putting the power down.
He had several laps within two seconds of my best laps. I've never seen a "stock" 997.1 so quick in amateur hands. This guy does not profess years of experience and deep skills, just some good coaching and probably the benefit of not having years of bad habits to erase. This was his first ever time trial with PCA and he placed second overall! If/when he gets a 3.9 (or are you contemplating a retrofit factory 4.0 despite the cost of the crank?) he will really need to look at the whole car ... and this would be your first 3.9 with shorter 3rd, 4th, 5th? <expletive deleted>

As CGT said it's a narrow body but a sexy one at that

Here's a few more updates from the last week:
A cart with a lot of "top soil" so to speak:
![](http://www.sharkwerks.com/forum_photos/_997/2007_Porsche_997GT3_SharkWerks_3-9Liter_RSS_Suspension/even_more_engine_build/2007_Porsche_997GT3_SharkWerks_3-9Liter_RSS_Suspension_engine_build.JPG)
Second layer:
![](http://www.sharkwerks.com/forum_photos/_997/2007_Porsche_997GT3_SharkWerks_3-9Liter_RSS_Suspension/even_more_engine_build/2007_Porsche_997GT3_SharkWerks_3-9Liter_RSS_Suspension_engine_build_02.JPG)
And even deeper:
![](http://www.sharkwerks.com/forum_photos/_997/2007_Porsche_997GT3_SharkWerks_3-9Liter_RSS_Suspension/even_more_engine_build/2007_Porsche_997GT3_SharkWerks_3-9Liter_RSS_Suspension_engine_build_03.JPG)
![](http://www.sharkwerks.com/forum_photos/_997/2007_Porsche_997GT3_SharkWerks_3-9Liter_RSS_Suspension/even_more_engine_build/2007_Porsche_997GT3_SharkWerks_3-9Liter_RSS_Suspension_engine_build_04.JPG)
Before assembly begins it's off to the parts cleaner:
![](http://www.sharkwerks.com/forum_photos/_997/2007_Porsche_997GT3_SharkWerks_3-9Liter_RSS_Suspension/even_more_engine_build/2007_Porsche_997GT3_SharkWerks_3-9Liter_RSS_Suspension_engine_build_09.JPG)
And once everything is cleaned etc.. (and a few other steps
) it's time to start building with our larger bore cylinders and liners:
![](http://www.sharkwerks.com/forum_photos/_997/2007_Porsche_997GT3_SharkWerks_3-9Liter_RSS_Suspension/even_more_engine_build/2007_Porsche_997GT3_SharkWerks_3-9Liter_RSS_Suspension_engine_build_15.JPG)
Then our cams as well:
![](http://www.sharkwerks.com/forum_photos/_997/2007_Porsche_997GT3_SharkWerks_3-9Liter_RSS_Suspension/even_more_engine_build/2007_Porsche_997GT3_SharkWerks_3-9Liter_RSS_Suspension_engine_build_20.JPG)
Set up along with the timing blocks:
![](http://www.sharkwerks.com/forum_photos/_997/2007_Porsche_997GT3_SharkWerks_3-9Liter_RSS_Suspension/even_more_engine_build/2007_Porsche_997GT3_SharkWerks_3-9Liter_RSS_Suspension_engine_build_21.JPG)
Then we can time them:
![](http://www.sharkwerks.com/forum_photos/_997/2007_Porsche_997GT3_SharkWerks_3-9Liter_RSS_Suspension/even_more_engine_build/2007_Porsche_997GT3_SharkWerks_3-9Liter_RSS_Suspension_engine_build_24.JPG)
And the other side as well:
![](http://www.sharkwerks.com/forum_photos/_997/2007_Porsche_997GT3_SharkWerks_3-9Liter_RSS_Suspension/even_more_engine_build/2007_Porsche_997GT3_SharkWerks_3-9Liter_RSS_Suspension_engine_build_27.JPG)
Starting to look like a block again:
![](http://www.sharkwerks.com/forum_photos/_997/2007_Porsche_997GT3_SharkWerks_3-9Liter_RSS_Suspension/even_more_engine_build/2007_Porsche_997GT3_SharkWerks_3-9Liter_RSS_Suspension_engine_build_29.JPG)
Some special grease left-over...

Hehe... you went to the dark-side eh
However, you do know that we can do this:![evilgrin](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/evilgrin.gif)
Now here I am digging around for some ECU's (a pair of Cayenne ECU's!):

Hehe sorry![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
No sir... you cannot buy these off the shelf
Took a lot of heads, scratching, CNC'ing to get these sw3.9 spec cams...
Yowza!
Thanks it has to be said there really isn't a better platform/motor to be starting with. It's such a peachy engine to start with. I figure we're hopefully adding some cream to it![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
The car is already out and about being broken in before the first oil change. I'll have some more updates in a mo'.
