The gearing is different and clearly the exhaust and map tweak are doing something, but given it's completely outgunned by the 3.8 RS, it was doing sensationally well in the business of putting the power down.

He had several laps within two seconds of my best laps. I've never seen a "stock" 997.1 so quick in amateur hands. This guy does not profess years of experience and deep skills, just some good coaching and probably the benefit of not having years of bad habits to erase. This was his first ever time trial with PCA and he placed second overall! If/when he gets a 3.9 (or are you contemplating a retrofit factory 4.0 despite the cost of the crank?) he will really need to look at the whole car ... and this would be your first 3.9 with shorter 3rd, 4th, 5th? <expletive deleted>
I'll ask him about the gearing because if that's the case then this will be one of the more fun 3.9 builds in the future. I believe FYI the engine has bout 45k miles on it too! A good testament... although if did blow the coolant stuff all over the place;(

A few more updates from this week; out come the plugs and stuff:

The oil tank etc... is off now:

Some of the wiring and other auxillary stuff is removed along with the intake manifold:

Parts trolleys getting stacked with GT3 clothing:

Starting to look more like an engine in there somewhere !

A close up of the heads... amazing work there and I dare someone to do better:P These things will flow a-ok to 500hp and 8800rpms:P

Out with ze camilones!

Valves, springs/retainers:

The valves are in MINT condition with such low mileage you would expect nothing less:

And now down to the pistons:

Here's a few more updates from the last week:

A cart with a lot of "top soil" so to speak:

Second layer:

And even deeper:

Before assembly begins it's off to the parts cleaner:

And once everything is cleaned etc.. (and a few other steps ) it's time to start building with our larger bore cylinders and liners:

Then our cams as well:

Set up along with the timing blocks:

Then we can time them:

And the other side as well:

Starting to look like a block again:

Some special grease left-over...

Thanks it has to be said there really isn't a better platform/motor to be starting with. It's such a peachy engine to start with. I figure we're hopefully adding some cream to it

The car is already out and about being broken in before the first oil change. I'll have some more updates in a mo'.
