Default 2010 GT3RS Rear Bumper Conversion to Cup Or Other Carbon/Kevlar? Who Has Done It?

Considering options here. Anyone converted a 2010+ GT3RS to Cup carbon/kevlar rear bumper cover/tow hook? Would hugely appreciate any comments as to feasibility without requiring a ton of modifications. Primary objective is weight savings not cosmetics. Thanks!

Ack, just saw the other thread, thanks John! You want to merge these two threads?

For the rear towing-hook + spring you will have to completely remove the crash bar.. as the 2010 still uses the 996 cup tow 996.722.693.92. A big no no if you street drive it at all.

Otherwise I guess the weight savings from a US bumper to this would be about 20-30pounds?

Is this also true for the Euro style street bumper cover?

Obviously enough, once you remove the rear impact absorbers, any little "love touch" on the track becomes a matter of almost limitless damage (headers pushed off the heads, crushed exhaust, engine carrier crushed into the pulley, etc.)

Unfortunately yes..

I had a carbon crash bar for a while loaned from a 993 but the fitment was terrible and still couldn't use the cup tow.

Not 100% true.

Yes to install the front and rear PMNA spring loaded tow hook, you need to remove crash bars as they use the same mounting holes.

BUT, You can have both but it requires custom work.

I know of cup cars that have added back the crash bars to prevent tub damage from racing bumps.

I would contact Fabryce at GMG, as I have personally talked with him about this and I know they can make them for you.

DO NOT, I repeat... DO NOT remove the crash bars from your street car just for looks. You will be the one losing out in the end.

The 2010-11 cup bumper is not carbon. It is plastic. The 09 and older cars had a carbon rear bumper.

A-ha, that is the critical piece of info here and what I needed to know as well. Thank you Cory! Mikymu's Cup bumper (09) feels like half the weight of my plastic OE bumper and weight savings is the only reason I would consider doing this.

Yup, just got confirmation from motorsports that 2010-2011 Cup rear bumper is made out of pliable plastic. How sad. I LOVE my carbon Kevlar rear bumper
