Default Best GoPro camera video settings?

Will be at Watkins Glen this weekend and it's my first time using a GoPro with roll bar mount.

What's the best setting you guys have found?

R3 or R4?

Center weight metering or spot?

Thanks!

Spot for inside the car.

Here is a video I did with shots inside & out of the car with my GoPro.

FYI, I do not reccommend doing donuts on WGI (or any other track) grounds.

I use R5 (highest resoluton) with spot metering (best for mounting inside the car).

Cool, we're in the same group, so whatever setting you chose, make sure to spend lots of time right behind me

Nice edit. Picture is incredibly clear. Oh, and nice driving

Burning a bit of oil from the right bank?

IMO, R3 is the best for the track. To me, 720@60FPS looks better playing back than 1080@30FPS. But R5 also works good. I don't know of any folks here that fun R4.

I tried both R5 and R3 and unless you want to project the film on a cinema screen ....... R3 (720P) works just very fine for your computer, TV and YouTube. The R5 (1920 x 1080) just eats up your memory stick 3 x faster and uploading at YouTube for example takes 3 x longer

+ 1 R3

I use R5, and spot.

Here is sample vid of Porsche instructor, John Lewis, lapping Putnam in my car this weekend:

Y I added some oil, & didnt secure the oil cap. it was puking a bit on the left handers. Made a mess of the engine bay, but sorted it out afer the session.

Here's more GoPro from a recent leMons race...

And sometimes the rear view is nice too (especially when you're outrunning a pair of 997Gt3's in the instructor group in a 14year old car)

I'd also experiment putting the camera on some different angles on the car..

The one thing the GoPro falls really short on is the Audio. I'd reccommend getting the skeleton case or at least use the open back so you get some better pick up. I will say it is an extremely versatile camera & would recommend taking underwater from time to time. I brought it with me to Cape Town and did one of the Shark Dives and it was great!

I am not sure why, but with my last upload, the sound was completely off synch after uploading on YouTube. The master is fine. Have not read all the YouTube help topics but it might have something to do with the 60 frames per second (fps) recording. YouTube might convert this to 30 fps (or 29.97) and therefore the sound does not match anymore. Anybody the same experience ?

Maybe R2 is therefore the safest setting (1280x720 @ 30 fps)

Or maybe the GoPro camera was just not getting along with the sound that day.
This was also the case between me and my gearbox. (check the end) http://www.youtube.com/user/Paradise.../2/cJj8dO2WdRU

For the outside shots, are you guys just using the stock suction cup that comes with the GoPro?

I had it on my snowboard but it fell off after about 20 seconds. Maybe I was going to fast, or maybe the frigid -10 degrees was to blame.
