If you're planning on a bigger trailer, that would be an option. Big trailers are a pain, trust me. I've been there.

I wouldn't trade your X5 for a truck unless you really need. If you need an enclosed 1 car trailer, you can still use your X5.

Andrew,

I have room for 1 set of tires on my open trailer and will be @ Autobahn and Road America then back to FL

Our X5 is also for the missus. I can't drive something like that daily. M3 sedan for me, thank you very much. And I don't care about gas mileage (with my driving it's terrifying).

Our next X5 will have the 3rd row. Buy then the oldest one can be in the last row and we can pick up a niece or two.
yea but see you still have the diesel truck for towing purposes. if i didnt love my black series so much, i would get a diesel just to tow and run over stuff. lol

You can use the X5 with an enclosed trailer but you will be pushing against it's limits.

Overkill is the way to go. Finding a place to keep all the vehicles is an issue but it's worth the trouble.

If my wife and kids come along to the track (locally only so far) she goes in the X5 with the kids. Otherwise the logistics are tough when I leave the hotel at 7:30 and she has no car until I come back. If I am instructing I can't leave for too long.

A pickup truck makes sense if you go often enough to the track. Or you pay someone else to tend to your car at the track. Then you can just drive up in a GT3 or RS with street tires. Some guys do that here and are happy not to bother with all that stuff.

Actually if you have a small enclosed aluminum trailer, you will be within the limits. My friend Chris tows his GT3 with a Cayenne V6. You can barely feel it.

Apparently Seneca Lodge is the place to go. Nothing fancy, but a bar full of racing history. Seems you've got to ask for the motel as opposed to the cabins? Never been but going next month http://www.senecalodge.com/

Plus, would help get you out of the funk you say you're in.

Thanks!

Just called and booked it. $80.00. We will see. They have a bar, so how bad can it be?
The Glen is last stop, so I have 2 days worth of driving home to recover from the hangover :-)
