Default Rollbar Mounting Plate Poll

Porsche welds rollbar mounting plates in all GT3s except those coming to US. The unofficial reason is that since the Clubsport Rollbar can't be ordered as an option removing the plates saves a few pounds.

I say, please include the plates for US-bound cars. The few pounds of added weight and the convenience they provide for installing the Clubsport rollbar aftermarket is far more valuable then the weight saving.

Agree? Disagree? Let Porsche know.

I have them in my early production 997.1 RS. It makes the install super painless.
I have installed full clubsport cage on both versions of the 997.1 tub and i can honestly say the early 997.1RS tub is worth the cash to those who go the route of factory bar.

Porsche North America keep the mounts out for legal reasons i assume. They do not want people to even whisper the idea of an available factory cage ordered in from Porsche europe.

Legal reasons have nothing to do with it. It's purely a cost-saving decision at the expense of US buyers.

With all due respect to Andreas' comments about keeping the car light, ask any Cup car driver if they'd ever set foot on the track without a rollbar/cage and you'd get a unanimous NFW.

PAG/PCNA needs to listen to the message being sent here - LOUD AND CLEAR.

To give more validity to this poll, I voted for no plates

What I really think, is that these US / RHD / special market distinctions are a bad idea to begin with.

They're costing automakers a lot of money and we all know what they do when this happens; they pass on cost to customers..

Should definitely be in the car! Considering how many of GT cars are tracked, it should definitely come with it from factory. The weight is not much, around 2 lbs?

Putting them afterward is PIA!

I put Porsche plates in (post factory), and they weigh less than one pound. Weight savings isn't a legitimate issue - it's all about cost.

same as TCS... early production car and mine has them... this makes installation just such a pain free operation...

cost saving by Porsche -- put them in all the gt cars and charge another $300 for the car... no one will flinch and the guys that need them will be so thankful...

If only someone had a direct channel of communication with Mr Preuninger to communicate the value and importance of the factory plates (front and rear) to him ...

He promised to either get them (plates) into, or make an option for the 991. Not going to happen on the remaining runout of 997.2's sorry

No fun for any of us to locate/drill/weld/bolt the plates in after the fact

BTW, my subjective observation is that the full Clubsport cage noticeably stiffened the chassis of my 3RS. It was stiff to begin with but even better now.

Hmm. Re: getting this done for 4.0 RS, the first builds don't start until July and most will be built Sept - Nov after the August factory break. The process and parts are already in place for ROW cars and we're talking about parts that probably add $2-$3 to the cost of building a car that will sell for just shy of $200k. The US is what 160 or so out of 600 cars? How hard can it be to get extra plates and do the US cars too?

With all deference to AP and your relationship to him, if Porsche doesn't have the logistics to pull that off then I'm a little worried for their future. I say stop short-changing the US and get it done.
